What about a beautiful container...basket or similar, next to the chair below the speaker, filled with some wonderful blankets/throws. It would really give a nice and warm vision from the foyer and add some texture. Colorful or neutral, as you prefer:

There's an almost total absence of color; even the art on the wall is colorless. To me it seems like a very sterile environment, although the monochromatic appearance may be your preference. Drapes on the windows would soften the look somewhat.

My eyes went straight to the shelving beside the fireplace: there is no hint there of your personalities, interests, or histories. How about putting some of yourselves in those shelves and on the walls?

Love what you have done.....but yes to linen type curtains floor to ceiling on the outermost windows with a black one inch diameter rod.

Only use one or two pictures over the sofa and put the other two else where in the room entry or stairway....the 3 seem to be dwarfing the sofa.

Add some black fur or velvet or suede throw pillows on sofa....the black with help rest the eye and move the eye around the room at the same time....try some black and gold accessories in the book shelf and on the mantle....play around a bit.

I would add sheer curtains, as Susan Davis mentioned, as well as matchstick blinds for texture. Also maybe patterned/textured pillows on the chairs and sofa, and a tray or other items on the coffee table. One item that doesn't seem to go (to my eye) is the round mirror on the mantel. It seems to be in conflict with the square/rectangular molding.

It's a very serene space. If that was your intent you achieved it quite well. It does seem to lack some personal touches and color but, once again, that may have been your intent. I would suggest different artwork above the sofa. The paintings border on bland and the differing orientations of the paintings seem discordant. Not sure about which window covering I would suggest but if it were my own home I'd definitely install something for privacy. Once again, it's a beautiful serene space!

Regarding window treatments, I have thought about it. The back of the property includes two acres of rolling forestry—the view is not something I’d want to obstruct. Privacy is not a concern unless the trees start talking.

Fun2BHere: Yes, the moment I hung them I had the same thought. I’ve asked multiple opinions and have gotten various feedback; do you think with added pillows the height might balance better? I do, however, love the drama of the scale and would like to keep that.

Susan: The sheer linen window treatments - you recommend they only be placed over left and right panes of picture window? Would that look off-balance with the singe window left of mantle?

It’s also worth nothing that, while I’m working on adding various personal touches, I’m a huge proponent of using monochromatic design in fostering a serene environment. I know it’s not for everyone - I respect that.

I would also lower the three painting and move them half the distance they are now closer to each other. Right now, they're a bit too high and disconnected from the couch. I would also remove the repetitive white candles from the shelving to the right of the fireplace. I would add in a funky vase, with a "string of pearls" plant:

Regarding the painting heights - what are thoughts on a thin console table behind sofa to fill space instead of lowering paintings - or would that be too busy?

I wouldn't since that will push your couch further to the center of the room. Then, your coffee table becomes off-center to the fireplace. You have a lot of symmetry now and I think a console table, even a very thin one, will throw that off.

The paintings are too high. Nothing you add will fix that. Just lower them.

I agree with what the others. Woven woods would look fantastic.

You have done a wonderful job here! You clearly know what you are doing. The height of the wall art is the only misstep and that can be easily fixed. I would move the tall plant out of the corner so it's not blocking the window, perhaps try putting in the spot by the chair? If it doesn't work there, I'd remove it altogether. But then, I hate house plants. I like the idea of putting a big basket full of assorted throws in that spot by the chair. You can add collections to your shelves as you acquire them. Collect things that have meaning to you. Other than that, you have a very lovely and inviting room! Well done!

Art spacing and height is biggest issue. Your monochromatic palette is pulled off beautifully. A possible couple touches of black in accessories would give that touch of contrast to pull everything together without messing up your vision. I would do solar screen self valanced window treatment, inside mount, remote if you can afford it. It would be simple, and allow your very pretty moldings to shine. I would select a color to match your trim so they also blend seamlessly into the background. Gorgeous space and well done!

A tall slender, green plant would be a nice addition for warmth without taking away from your palette.

The plant you have is a bit too large and bushy for the space, IMO. I would like it more skinny and perhaps on the other end of the chairs. Looks pretty "blah" on that end. A piece of dark sculpture would work great there too!

I would put a sculpture on a pedestal where that light is next to your sliders. It should be a statement piece that you love and that welcomes you home every day as well as makes your guests glad to be with you in your home. I would get the best I could afford.

I like the sculpture idea, however the lack of varying heights from martini table to pedestal would be my one concern.

Well, you are the one who will choose the pedestal and the sculpture, so there should not be a concern since you have already shown you know how to create a wonderful space. I thought you wanted to improve the view from the entrance.

Your room is beautiful. I do agree that perhaps a basket with some some texture would look great in the space. I also feel the cognac sofa could be balanced out by bringing some of that color over to the other side of the room. If you're not wanting to add wood shades, perhaps just a pillow with a bit of that color in the chair?

Perhaps just lowering the art to about 8" above the top of the sofa and bringing each piece in about half again as close together would help it feel more cohesive. I agree with you though, that the the large pieces add drama.

No to the slender sofa table, lower the art and decide if YOU are happy without window treatments. Personally, I don't like them, so have avoided it in every house I've had unless absolutely necessary. Not everyone's choice, but I was quite happy with it.You get to pick.
