Transplanting lilies in pots questions

I grew some asiatic lilies in mixed planters this year. I had planned on transferring them to a bed I am reworking this fall. I realized I am NOT going to have the bed fully ready this fall.

Would it work to sink the pots with the lilies into a holding bed til next year? I am afraid that if I removed them from the planters and planted them in the holding bed, it would be hard to get them out next spring without breaking them. I have had a lot of trouble with that before.

Whereas if sinking the whole pot, next spring I could just pop them out of their pots as a unit and plant them like a block or cylinder of potting soil that contains 3 lilies, and not set them back.

Thanks.
