Dining Chair suggestions for MacKenzie Childs table, please

I am purchasing a cute coastal cottage and plan on using a MacKenzie Childs ceramic table base that I have for the small dinette area. This is not my photo (obviously), but this is my table base. I have a glass top for it that I think is around 44 inches-could be 48". It's in storage so I'm not sure of the exact measurements. The walls will be painted SW Sea Salt. The dinette is open to the kitchen and family room. Kitchen cabinets are warm white, countertops are a pale aqua and white marble. I prefer upholstered seat cushions for the chairs. Suggestions for some fun chairs? I cannot afford the MacKenzie Childs fish backed chairs in the photo.

With that table base I would let that be the star and go with Ghost chairs

They actually are comfortable and you could add a seat pad in pink for a bit of cush and they are nice with no arms too.

Ghost chairs and a glass top? I would get plain white painted chairs, ladder back and Courtly Check seat cushions.

PS Or Windsor chairs, or comb back, anything simple would work for me.

    Very nice table!

I think nearly any wooden chair would work well. Can you paint? Or know someone who can? I’ll bet you could find a set of nice, inexpensive chairs, then paint them, add cushions, etc.

Hopefully I can post pics, been having issues with the site. A few MC inspiration chairs, then suggestions that you could use to get a similar look.

If you don’t want the chairs painted with a design, they’d look great just painted a solid color, too. Cream, green, etc, and add a striped cushion. But MC designs are supposed to be fun and whimsical. :)

I went to look at Candelabra and saw so many options my brain is reeling. Re-upping with a MacKenzie Childs fabric opens up a world of options. I really like the lines of the Hoppen Melissa but not the black finish... but then there are these https://www.shopcandelabra.com/bungalow-5-jardin-side-chair-in-navy-blue or https://www.shopcandelabra.com/candelabra-home-loom-dining-chair-set-sand and,and,and.... Overall my choice would be to keep to the casual and comfortable with a side of whimsy.

These are some great ideas. I've had the table a long time and the original chairs I used with it were white with a very subtle pink outline and pastel floral cushions. The chairs unfortunately wore out and I gave them away.

I do like the idea of maybe mixing up the fabric patterns on the chairs or the ghost chairs with cushions. I wish MC did sell their fabric (they did for awhile) , but courtly check is a bit too strong a pattern with this table base anyway. Parchment check may have worked, but seems they are phasing that out.

Jinx- I can paint, but if I painted the chairs I think I'd keep them solid. wonder if I painted each a different solid color?

Maybe wicker chairs? Also, you're right, no Courtly Check.

This is just my opinion, of course, but I wouldn't do each chair a different, solid color. This may sound weird, since MC mixes so many colors/patterns, but that’s just it: the goal of a certain cohesiveness in not being strictly cohesive ... just the right amount of busy ... and too many mixed, but solid, colors in that scheme doesn’t work. I’m probably not explaining it well, ha.

Maybe for now, since you'll be newly moved in (congrats, btw!) and busy, just paint them one color and add cushions (or not). Or, even leave unpainted. Later, when things settle down and you see how the table fits in the room, you could play around. :)

I wouldn’t do ghost chairs ... the style really doesn’t mesh well with an MC table and glass top. A set of them would truly take away from the whimsy of your table, IMO.

Too sleek of a look for MacKenzie Childs.

ETA: This is a rare one I do like. It works here because the tree trunk base is such a large, powerful, solid presence, and is intended to be the only focal point. Everything around it is supposed to disappear. And we’re meant to take in the contrast of very sleek and man-made vs very textured and organic/earthy.

Perhaps this chair with a colorful, round seat cushion

    Good points Jinx.

    Zalco- wicker could work

    Judy G- maybe too modern?

Carolae- bentwood chairs in color would probably look good, however I find them extremely uncomfortable-lol!!!!

Since the cottage has a craftsman vibe I don't want to go too modern with the chairs, as I'll also need to coordinate with the stools in the kitchen.

Well, after looking at bunches of chairs it appears I may like a little MCM vibe with my table base. Also, I took a photo of my table base which is a little different pattern to the the photo I linked earlier. Maybe blush or seafoam chairs like these? If I did the blush velvet with the darker legs I'd probably paint the legs a seafoam color. MC is always whimsical and these seem somewhat whimsical to me- they are also very comfortable!

    That blush chair is scrumptious!

Definitely don't do ghost chairs (doesn't sound like you're leaning that direction). I have one that I thought would be ideal in my bathroom, and I can't stand sitting in the darn thing. Super uncomfortable.

I like those! I think they’ll look great with your table, and in that lovely room. You have to show us later! :)

I think the blush would be lovely with that table.

thanks everyone!!! Glad you all like them, too! I looked at so many chairs and they just seemed either too traditional or too basic, or too big, or too busy, or too bright, or too rustic, etc. And then I saw these, and just like Goldilocks I thought they were just right. I was definitely leaning towards the blush and although my hubby was skeptical at first- once he sat in them he was sold!

those are fun chairs, groveraxle!! I think my favorite is the second from the left.

eta- Oh, I see he just got mismatched chairs and painted and upholstered them the same way. Hmmm... that could be fun!

I still think you nailed it with the blush chairs. They are just so very pretty and look comfortable too.

I went ahead and purchased the blush chairs- I will post a photo once we have closed on the house and moved things there. Since we will close in mid December, I'm not sure I'll move things until after Christmas- so it might be awhile! But I promise to come back to update. It always bugs me when people ask for advice and then sometimes we never get to see the final outcome of how it looks, so I will post once it's finished. I like the chandelier- it's different, but just don't know if it will look too dark with everything else. I'll wait until I have the table and chairs there to decide. Now I need bar stools...

promised I would come back with a photo once we had the furniture moved into the new house. Not the best photo, but I'm happy with the chairs with the table. Not sure about the chandelier, but will probably keep it for now as I have other priorities.

I love them! Thank you for the update! Absolutely perfect choice. :)

just beautiful I am thinking of buying one. What is the dimension of your glass top?

I think the chairs you selected look wonderful and I also like the chandelier.
