Face-lift for small home curb appeal

We are ready to renovate for siding and front door. Roof is new. We do have an upstairs, but dormer windows face the back. We like taupe siding, white trim and a black entry door.

Energy Star ratings are important as well as aesthetics. Any and all ideas and photos welcome.

It's a cute home. If it's in the budget, I think curb appeal would be greatly enhanced by having two matching windows on the front.

I agree with Claire about having two matching windows if possible. Black door is a great idea!

I'd change the wrought iron railings to wood, in a simple colonial style.

Matching windows, and a different color door

I don't think the windows necessarily have to match but if you can expand the window on the right (perhaps two larger windows that go nearer the floor line) that might make the house seem more balanced. Yes to replacing the railing. And, actually, if you could build a small entry porch with a roof that should go a long way toward increasing curb appeal.

Here is a home with taupe siding, white trim and black door. Notice the handrails. I like these windows much more than your bay window.

A smaller version of this portico would be perfect for your house.

I'm not nuts about the look of the window on the left. I'm sure it improves the look of the living room from the inside, though. I would go with something more classic. I'm kind of torn since, obviously, someone thought that window would be a nice upgrade and it could even be new.

What an adorable home! Love the new roof, clean little shrubs and front steps! To add to the great suggestions above, I would replace the railing to something more decorative, like this:

I always love when the cement pathway is lined with red brick to match brick steps. You could also "beef up" your window and door trim. Other than that I think updating your exterior light, numbers and mailbox will also help putting the finishing touch on the exterior.

    Hope this helps!

It is a charming home and some wonderful suggestions already noted here. Have you considered adding a covered entry to the front of the home? It would add some interest to the front elevation and provide the benefit of keeping you dry when fumbling for keys to the front door. Example below

Master Edge Homes and houssaon that is an awesome suggestion. I found this one that I like very much, without the long vertical supports. I would recess the lighting. Don't like the light fixture in the photo so much. What do you think?

This is charming, classic cottage. I really love this style. A covered entry would be awesome as well as practical! Prefer columns with a simple rail and spindles, setting you toward a cottage look; in wood, the simpler the better. Red brick along the cement sidewalk is brilliant! I like Houssaon's idea photo, how they beefed up window and door framing rather than using shutters; the white contrast with the taupe clearly creates interest and doesn't clutter the front of the house. Definitely need to change out the window on the right as described by Norwood. If you can't replace the window on the left, consider adding mullions to the center window to create a Bow window with mullions and add corbels underneath.

The suggestions for a gable front porch are great, but now that you already have a new roof, you might be surprised what it will cost to install that porch. It would have been cheaper to do it when the roofers were working on the house. Shown below are a cloth awning and a metal awning that might be less costly alternatives. I know that some people are very picky about shutters. I’m not. I accept them for what they are: decorations. I think black decorative shutters on the right window might be a way to balance the bay window on the left.

If on a budget I would buy a large decor piece to put on wall to right of the steps painted in a fairly bright color, that would make the different sized windows less noticeable as it would catch your eye & not the difference in window sizes! Might have to bring home a couple of designs & sizes to see what would look the best. for the space.
