Well, first off, thank you all so much for your advice! I've read and re-read all of the posts and have put a lot of thought into your words. They are appreciated! We have gone ahead and ordered a new bed from Z Gallerie and took the recommendation of the crisp, taylored-line headboard. I should have looked at that recommended Etsy site prior (thanks dcer!) but had already ordered the bed last week. Along these lines I was pondering wallpaper the niche a light silvery color, (along the lines of the left picture posted by houssaon) while painting the tray ceiling perhaps the same silvery light color? The remaining three walls would be a darker blue (but in the same family as the silver?). Thoughts?? As far as the sconces go, I'm still hemming and hawing over getting rid of them all together and have side tables w/ fun lamps on either side, or installing a sconce with a swing arm. A new rug will be needed as well. I will pick that out once the bedding and paint come to closer fruition. I'm finding this project to be a fun problem to have! Thanks again!

"Other" discussions are often quite "slow" with only a few suggestions here and there. The main "Discussions" page is far more active with many people chiming in. There are two ways to get an answer: 1) Interesting title - an odd title/question will get more people to notice 2) PHOTOS!!! I rarely "open" a post that does not have a photo in the avatar box. If I see a photo AND a neat question or phrase, I open it. Even if it has NOTHING to do with flooring, I'm always interested in other peoples design concepts.

I would go with a brownish color such as the the following. If they're too dark, go a couple of shades lighter.

This is not an easy one! Your instinct to change the color is right on! I don't think a wall paper or a vivid color are necessarily the way to go. I'd look into paint colors like Benj. Moore "Montpelier" AF-555. It's a deep Gray with a lot of Blue undertone. This is the sort of color used on walls and wallpapers in the early 1900's. Victorian was making an exit but darker wood and Euro-ish furniture rulled. If you're up for it this would make for a dramatic bath or PR.
