Electrical wiring - 3 wires convert to 4 wires.

I am in the process of replacing an old hot tub that I had wired (220v 50 amp) in 2008. It had a 3 wire (all black) connection. The new hot tub calls for a 4 wire connection (white, red, black & green). Can the 3 wire connection be converted to a 4 wire, or do I need to have new wiring installed?

There is no way to upgrade/convert from 3 to 4 wires. You will to install new 6/3 wiring and make the appropriate connection (plug or hard-wire, depending on what the hot tub requires).

Do you have 3 black wires plus a ground or just 3 black wires? There’s no green equipment ground???

In any case, I would strongly suggest that you have the work done by a licensed electrician with experience installing pools and spas. A big tub of water and electricity is no place for amateurs.

Most likely it didn't have a neutral, many hot tubs are 240 Only.

Mike is right, tubs of water that you immerse you and your family into is no place for amateurs. In addition to the "extra" wire, you also need GFCI protection and likely to use an insulated ground and a few other things you might not have been contemplating.
