I thought it would be fun to start a new thread for anyone who would like to share their favorite Christmas cookie or other holiday recipes. I know I always like to try a new cookie every year :)

Simply take a photo of the the recipe and post.

    Hahaha Pool!

Pool your dogs know a good thing when they smell them! Sorry you lost out. :(

Nicci....thanks for another great cookie recipe for me to try :) I like that they stay moist and soft for a while. I don't think I have any recipes that don't have sloppy side notes ! Lol

Pool sounds like you have your hands full with those dogs:::))))

You guys and the lemon ricotta...yum! Both sound amazing. I know Mary already posted cream cheese bars, but these are a favorite around here. Made them for my niece's wedding, but we usually have them around the holidays.

Flo, on my iPhone if I hold down the photo I get the option to save it in Photos. Can you try that?

I have a photo album called Recipes where I save all my pics of magazine pages and screenshots

    Oh. I’ll try that. Thanks!

    Got it. Thx!

    Flo, did it work?

You can also click the box with an arrow on it and email it to yourself or anyone. Or save it to your Notes or any other supported app or document.

Hi Pool...I have an iphone and it would only work if I did a screen shot then saved. It would not give me the save to photos option if I did it the other way . Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this as well :)

    Mary,

Do you use the app or web browser? And are you on the latest update?

I feel like maybe I was able tot start saving by holding down with the latest update. and I use view Houzz on the web browser, not the app.

In this screenshot, I touched the photo to enlarge then held down on it and the options popped up.

Thanks, Mary. I will try that as well. After an initial email to tech support and a response from them with two suggestions to try , which did not work, I emailed them again. This is a copy which explains the process I have now been using.

My goodness, nicci. What an ordeal to have to learn how to do something by accident and to have to go through such lengths to do something that used to be so simple. I really hope this is short-lived or I worry our houzz friends will stop stopping by!

To add, I haven’t figured out how to do a mock up. This is the biggest mess ever!!

Wish Houzz was sorry. If they were told to mess things up they couldn’t have done this badly. Unbelievable. I have sent in two messages to tech support. No solutions yet. I do know I am not the only one. So that’s something.

Seems like we have to jump through hoops to get houzz to work. Nicci and Flo please keep us updated on the responses you receive.

I have received NO responses. But I sent an email to my best Houzz person, and she has been the most helpful. She is going to talk to a key person, so we shall see. On the iPhone it is complete disaster. I'm on my desktop writing this. I don't have much patience these days either, so we shall see. I'll post any results.

I have decided to add a "swedish apple pie" to my Thanksgiving dessert list. I have never made one but the recipe I found seems pretty simple. Has anyone made one before ? Any tips or suggestions?

This is one of my and my husband's absolute faves. Crispy on the edges and slightly chewy in the center with just the right amount of spice.https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/chewy-ginger-molasses-cookies-2269143

No bake, everyone’s loves, and super easy
    Oreo Truffles
About 10 to 15 Oreos in the blender to grind up
2 or 3 spoonfuls of cream cheese mixed in so you can form small balls
    Chill balls for 30 minutes
Roll balls in melted chocolate and then decorate with sprinkles
    Chill again until chocolate hardens

Instead of Oreos you can use Nutter Butter and peanut butter chips and sprinkle with crushed nuts
I’ve seen these made with Thin Mints, white chocolate and crushed candy canes
Sort of endless combinations and can make as many or as few as you want and little kids can easily help

Hi Donald I’ve made the Oreo truffles just like you say super easy and delicious! I do want to try the Nutter Butter ones with the peanut butter chips. They sound awesome :).

Donald, thanks for the ideas! I think I'll try to make these with my kids. too bad I just finished off that pack of Nutter Butters hoho. Good excuse to buy more!

katinparadise‘s comment above brought up a question:

How many different types of cookies/cakes/sweet breads/pastries/candies do you all make?

(for the sake of this question leave out any treat made as part of a meal like Christmas Eve dessert or Boxing Day cinnamon rolls lol)

I just counted up and my list is 17 long! Usually I don’t get to a few of them.

    I have to get busy!!

It depends on the year haha I have my standards I make every year and if I have time I make some extras

    Regulars:

    Texas Trash

    pecan tassies

    rum cake(s)

    puppy chow

    cheese ball

    Others:

    Mexican wedding cookies

    pecan Rolo thingies

    candied pecans

    peanut butter balls

We usually try to have biscuits & gravy and monkey bread at least one weekend morning during the season also.

Growing up my mother used to make peanut brittle every year and I do miss that. It's my favorite treat if I get it in a gift basket.

    With pleasure justwantapool!

Actually add to that list soft gingerbread cookies and something for St Nick on his night (this year was shortbread).

For several years I attempted to make spritz. I kept the cookie gun (though I have wanted to launch it through a window every year) but I no longer attempt them because I can never get the dough to come out smoothly, the top of the gun pops off, the cookie won’t stick on the sheet and peels back off when I lift the gun...any tips would be greatly appreciated!

ETA “snowballs” are the same as Mexican wedding cookies :)

This year it's 7. It usually ranges between 6 and 8, depending on who is going to be around. My sister has a few that everyone likes and since she won't be here this year, I'll be making two of hers that are favorites. It's also the first year since I can remember that I won't be making Mexican Wedding Cookies. I added jam thumbprints back in instead. I make an Italian Ricotta cookie that's so light and tasty. Cutouts are always a must. I like to work on my doughs starting after Thanksgiving. I mix them up and throw them in the freezer, then bake them off a few days before Christmas. Here in Florida, I can't keep them cool in the garage like I used to up in Buffalo so I don't make them too far ahead.

are 'pb kisses' the pnut butter cookies with hershey's kisses on top? Because I LOVE those. I have never made them but I will eat them all if I see them on a goodie plate haha

do you have a certain pb cookie you use for them? IDK what it is but the cookie is always so much better than a regular pb cookie. And I love pb cookies!

justwantapool-I make the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey kisses. It's the only one I cheat on and use the Betty Crocker cookie mix for. I find the full size kisses too large for the cookies so last year I used the Brach's chocolate stars. I think they're just the right size and the star shape is pretty on the cookie as well. I noticed this year that Ghirardelli also makes a drop that they say is specifically for that type of cookie. They call them Thumbprint Drops.

Miss lindsey-I make the raspberry thumbprints as well but this year, I got a fig orange jam to try in mine. I love figs in cookies so I thought I would give it a try.

Yes, those are the pb kisses I mean! I love them :) I can’t seem to find the chocolate stars here, but I too prefer to use those. Better chocolate distribution :-)

I also sometimes use a peppermint kiss on top of the chocolate crinkles, yummy!

katinparadise your fig-orange jam sounds delicious! I usually mix up my thumbprints with whatever jam I have on hand (predominantly apricot, sometimes strawberry, blueberry, or even grape) because raspberry is my husband’s favourite and he is stingy with it lolol. I suppose I could always just buy a jar...

I love using apricot as well but it's hard to find a good quality apricot jam with a lot of flavor. I make an hors d'oeuvre that my son-in-law loves with little phyllo cups, a bit of brie, and apricot jam with a few chopped walnuts on top. I bake them until they warm up and the brie melts a bit. Then add the walnuts after. I'll be making them this year since they're flying in from Denver.

I can't wait to try the fig-orange jam. Hopefully it lives up to my expectations!

I found my chocolate stars in Target last year. They're not easy to come by.

I’m in Canada, no target here. But I feel less hard done by knowing that those stars are rare everywhere haha

We are fortunate to have a plentiful supply of apricots and plums so I make jam from both of those. Makes buying jam anathema!

Where in Canada? I used to live in Buffalo, NY, just over the border from Fort Erie and not too far from Toronto.

    You can't beat homemade jame!

Other side of the country, British Columbia :)

Beautiful part of the country from pictures I see. The Canadian Rockies and Vancouver are on my bucket list. The closest I've gotten is Seattle.

Absolutely. It may be a minute, but I'm determined to get out there!
