Replacing a rose with another one in the same spot

I have a Climbing Dublin Bay planted against a southeast wall, it’s served me well, it’s been a good rose, but I would like to replace it. Would it be okay to plant another rose in the same spot, and if so, how do I need to prepare the soil? Should I wait for a season or longer and give it a rest? Seems like I’ve read mixed opinions on planting another rose in the same spot, I do it with other roses, but have never replaced one that big and well established before.
