Modern boho living room

last modified: 5 years ago

Hi guys! I am in a dilemma. I move down into a new apartment and i am having trouble trying to decorate it. The style i am going for is modern bohemian. I really like clean colors, a lot of minimalist aspects as well. The only problem is that my sofa is throwing me off! I have no idea what color rug or style rug to even begin with. I tried a white huge rug but it looked way too tan and yellow against the grey. I need advice!

Hey Taylor..I would also remove the faux palms on the dining table and do a low white bowl with cactus..will really give it a more organic style..the palms are just a bit too faux.

    Good idea!!!

    Really nice! Great job.

I haven’t made much progress on my bedroom. My job closed because of the quarantine so i won’t be getting a pay check for a while :(

So sorry to hear about your job. Such trying times we're in right now! OTOH, your living room looks absolutely fantastic! It has beautiful natural light. You've done a fantastic job.

I love what you have done! Beautiful!

My new headboard came in! I was hesitant to get a colorful one but i ended up loving it!

Now i just need to get some super wide window curtains to cover my ugly blinds and then to go behind my nightstand too to tie it all in. Unless you guys have something better in mind!

It looks great. How wide is the window? What's your budget for curtains?

My window is 52 inches wide. I would say my budget is around 50-100 dollars. I already have a gold rod that I purchased. I believe it goes up to 120 inches wide

Are you looking for black-out curtains? I bought white ones (kind of grayish undertones but look white mostly) at Target -- Project 62 line. They look very similar to the PB Teen blackout curtains I bought a while ago at a fraction of the price. Also check out PB Basics.

And what color? Are you going to just match the wall? These are blackout, back tab and $27.99 each.

You could just do a wall of just sheers.

Rooms look great. Headboard is 👍. I hope you are proud of yourself. I don’t even know you and I am so proud of you! You have a great eye for design. Love your plants in LR.

So i moved my furniture around in my living room and although it’s more practical i feel like it doesn’t look as good. I was thinking about getting a longer tv stand and mounting the tv and then getting an olive tree to put in the corner. What do you guys think?

I forgot to include the photo lol

Maybe i just need to see how everything looks in natural light

    Here’s a better photo

I like this look too. I really liked the cabinet in the corner with the record player on it. it just looked cool to me. what if you moved the cabinet back to that spot and put the record player back o it, left the rest of the furniture and got a longer cabinet for the TV. the cabinet does.look a bit.small for the size of the TV. but I do like it both ways.

I like that idea! The reason why i moved it was because the other wall i had the tv stand on was too short so the tv stand was really off centered from the sofas because the wall didn’t extend out enough. I think if i get a larger tv stand, one that’s more of a statement then it will look good. I also want to add a large olive plant in the corner by the tv stand and i have some large floating wood shelves to add to the empty wall

I also just ordered another set of curtains for the other window. I kept forgetting to buy them haha

be careful with the floating shelves, is there enough room in that walkway to the door so that you don't bump against them as you walk next to the sofa? it looks a little tight.

I think it’s about 2 1/2 feet but you are right i didnt think about that. I despise that wall lol

if you had the sofas set up in original configuration, there wouldnt be any issue with the shelves.

Very true! I think I’m going to move it back to what i originally had it tomorrow. And then I’ll mount the tv on the small wall the then put the large floating shelves on the bigger wall!

studying the.room a bit more, it seems like some additional lighting in the other corner may be needed. looks on the dark side in that corner, perhaps a floor lamp

A large arched lamp would look great!

    yes it would be perfect.

another thought, depending on the size of the floating shelves, maybe consider the longer low console table on.the long wall and then put the shelves on one side of the console.and then the tv on the other side. this pic has the tv centered, but it could be shifted to either side and the shelves on the other. make it a statement wall

I just moved it back to how it originally was! I think that counts as my workout for the next week haha

@Taylor McAbee, wow quite a workout, could you show us a photo of the final layout? Loving the room!

What happened to the blue mud cloth pillows? What about a hanging light in that darker corner?

What do you think of this hanging lamp, it's wood....

I love the lamp!! I have the blue pillows on my bed right now but I’ll move them back once I order more :)

@Taylor McAbee the lamp is on sale for $146 at Lamps Plus. Room looks nice! I think your room needs more of a teal pillow, if the rug you originally found is still in there...just a suggestion though.

    Both rooms are looking super!

My cowhide rug came in! And these are the pillows i plan on buying for my sofa!

So i had a break through and realized the light blue colors aren’t my personality and i really love warm autumn colors. So I’m tweaking the style of my living room. The blue rug and blue pillows I donated so I don’t feel guilty about not having them anymore!

These are my new inspiration photos. I definitely want to get a rug with some black in it for the dining room. I want some contrast in that area. Then i plan on getting a large art piece, something that pops. Eventually, i want to get a black and cane credenza, but i might look into DIYing it

love the cowhide, looks great, but all the looks you have had look great. love cane and black. it will bring the.sophistication of your dining room up for sure...

Which floor lamp do you think would look better in the corner of my room? I also photoshopped an art print on there that i ordered lol

The lamps are all around the same price

I like the black or gold, but if you go with the.gold, you will want to bring in more gold accents, maybe something for the coffee table. did you photoshop some of the pillows too, or are they new?

I photoshopped them to see if it went with the space!

which floor lamp do you like? do you have a preference?

I was thinking about the gold because it would pop against the walls. I am also bringing in some gold elements like this tray

yes, love the gold and tray.
