HELP PLEASE!!!! I think I made a mistake

The original trim is wood. A honey oak stained. I've already started on priming the wood trim. I was planning on painting wood and walls all the same color...Pearly white walls flat and pearly white trim gloss, with white ceilings. I was thinking of leaving the front door the original color wood, like in the photo as well as the entrance to the game room. And I want to paint the skylights on the ceiling too. Any advice would be appreciated.

here you can see the where I started the prime

should I paint the door trim or leave it the way its is?

I don't think you've made a mistake at all! I think you are absolutely on the right track! It will look really good when done! One thing, I see you have a beigey-taupey couch. Be careful with white walls with that colour, it could easily make your couch look dirty. Paint your trim and skylights the pearly white then do a tester on the wall to see if you want that same colour close to your couch. You may want to go a little warmer with the wall colour. Other than that, your decisions have been correct! Your game room door and front door are nice so leaving them wood will make them stand out as an architectural feature. Well done!

I would not paint the skylights--they look quite striking from your picture. If you dislike the color of the wood trim, etc. why not just restain it?

If the skylights are shedding a yellow toned light on your room that you don't care for, then paint them white.

I agree with Cat. I would not have painted any of the wood.

What I can see of the wood looks like it might be cherry. IMO, it is almost criminal to paint stain grade wood. Save the paint for MDF & finger jointed pine.

Too late for that but, in this case, for anyone contemplating this sort of thing, I would advise them to paint the walls first (the wall color is atrocious) and then stand back & re-evaluate the plan to paint the trim. I love the contrast of stained wood and white walls.

I think you did the right thing. Honey stained trim was popular years ago and was usually used by builders, along with cheap luan doors. I can't tell you how much trim I've painted and how many doors I've replaced. The white painted trim will be so much more versatile in allowing both warm and cool colors in your space.

I dislike all the wood in the house and agree that painting it white makes the house look much better!

I would not use a high gloss for the trim just matte for the wals and semigloss for the trim and honestly I paint trim all the time I would do the skylights and I love that you are leaving the door I hat oak so IMO painting it is better for sure.

I would paint all of the trim including the sky lights. I personally appreciate trim that is the same sheen level as the walls. I love the look of both of them being flat. But, if you like some sheen, I would just go up one level from matte on the trim. I personally would paint the trim on the sliding glass doors. But, if you are unsure, don't paint it, see how it looks once everything else is painted. If you think it looks off, you can do it last or later.

You have a great plan. Keeping the door darker would look great but I do not think that wood is very nice looking. Paint it some dark color; black may work great.

Leave it like that when you make it to close to the same color it dont look right to me I think it's a nice when your trim is dark then your trim should be a lighter color or vice versa the more you break up the color the better but not a rainbow of course for the reason is that why you have trim and to cover up the joints and transitions

You Want glossy for trim and not on walls unless that's your style of things. The trim should set your room off break up the patterns even paint the doors different from the trim if I was to paint it white time and black doors or maybe a dovetail color on

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. I did...LOL

So here's the update. Far now, I'm not going to paint the trim/door, or game room entrance until I finished painting.

I like the idea of painting the trim and wall the same color. Thoughts? The ceilings are currently being painted Sherwin Williams Highly Reflective white.

Any suggestions on a neutral paint color? (something to flow with this granite color below). I'm going to paint the main living area of the house including the

    kitchen the same color.

    I took this at night

I know this is an old post but could anyone share a photo of pearly white in your home? I have very red wood floors and worry the yellow will pop and clash.
