Experience with IKEA Sektion custom door company "Mix-it Modern"?

I can't seem to find ANY reviews on this company (https://mixitmodern.com/) and want to know if anyone here has worked with them and has thoughts about the quality of their product and ease with which to work with them?

Why don’t you just use Ikea. IMO by the time you go with new doors on Ikea boxes you might just as well do custom cabinets. The doors are what cost the money.

I'm looking for the same - they've been very responsive to my emails, but I can't find any reviews other than those on their websites. Their color and material options are far more beautiful than Ikea's IMO.

Hi @ellenjean12, I realize this is an old post, but would you mind telling me if you found any reviews for the "mix it modern" doors? Did you end up going with them for your cabinets? I was looking for reviews (with no luck) and came across your post.

Mix It Modern have been phenomenal with communication -- I've been keeping them updated on my struggles. And I loved their samples. Alas, IKEA is the problem. There is zero stock for their Sektion base cabinets, and I'm now exploring other non-IKEA options, which breaks my heart, because I was settled on the exact cabinets and fronts I needed.

@Ariel Rey - Oh no, where are you located? I've just ordered my IKEA cabinets and though I haven't gotten 100%, it hasn't been too bad. We are waiting for 5 'out of stock' of 22 cabinets needed. (First order was 5/31 in store, largest of the shipments arrived 6/6 and another is due on 6/14). We are in Charlotte, the majority of the components (including some frames, all drawers, hinges, etc) were local and the remaining pieces came from the east coast distribution center. I have had to call the 888 number many times for updates, not ideal, but have secured 3 addl frames by doing so. Hopefully the remaining pieces don't take too long. I've now been in contact with Jen @ Mix it Modern and yes, I agree on the quick response times and information. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

(I was going to send this in a pm, but don't have the option to create a new message for some reason. If you'd like and can do so, send me a message)

This is an old post but just in case anyone searches it, LOVE Mix-it-Modern. We are still working on the renovation. Ordered pantry canbinets and they were flawless. I almost went with their competitor despite not loving the choices. Thankfully their site poppoed up in my searches but, only after weeks of sourcing for our renovation. Super easy to deal with. Short lead times. Everything was so well packaged and measurements were correct. They shipped to the Midwest for us. I will post pics when it is complete. Of all the businesses I have dealt with, they were one of the best. Order your samples first. I changed my mind after seeing them in our home’s lighting. We are going to use them for our upstairs office built-ins in future.

Hi @Andi, have you completed your project with Mix-it-Modern? I'd love to see some pictures. Thank you!

@Ariel Rey, did you end up ordering from Mix-it-Modern?

So glad to see the good review for this company. We are in baby stages but really considering this option! Question: Someone posted above regarding an “option” other than IKEA. What is the alternative to IKEA?

@Marisa Silveira sadly I didn't - but through no fault of theirs. I literally couldn't get IKEA cabinets. I wasted a lot of time (and some money for the three cabinets I could get, that then had to be returned). I ended up getting cabinets from the Shiloh line of modern cabinets, called Eclipse. They also are taking a while to get delivered, but much easier to work through than IKEA.

@Marisa Silveira - I'm about to put in an order with Mix it Modern within the next few days. So far, they've been great with customer service and answering the (many) questions I've had for them. I ordered a sample door from them and I like the quality, feel, color. I got their slim shaker in surf, very nice (and unique) color, but they have a lot of options.

Does anyone know what type of process Mix-It Modern uses to make their super-matte lacquer doors? There are lots of different types of lacquer processes, and some yellow much more than others. Also, how dense is the core? Is it less dense like particleboard, or more dense (e.g., medium or high-density fibergoard)?

We ordered mix it modern cabinet fronts a month ago and they are literally now ghosting us when it comes to giving an order update. They dont pick up our phone calls or respond to emails. I really need the order (especially the side panels) soon before our countertop gets installed. There’s no way to get a word from them. Is anyone else experiencing the same with them recently?

Unfortunately, I’m having the same problem. I had ordered samples months ago from MIT-it Modern along with several other IKEA “compatible” companies. Once I decided on the their sample, I sent pages of drawings, layouts, lists of each item along with descriptions, sizes, location on the drawings, etc…in other words, everything with the expectation that I would hear back in 24-48 hours as promised on their website. The first time I sent all of that was on 1/10 & then again on 1/17. Haven’t heard a word. I called their office today but had to leave a voice mail message & haven’t received a callback yet.

If someone does end up speaking with them or receiving product, please post so that we don’t give up on them completely. Thanks!

Hi all, I've received product from them just last week. Their communication has definitely slowed, I have received responses to a few emails, though I'm due a return one now. I've had an overall positive experience with them, I'd say don't give up on them yet.

My thought is that something has happened recently at the company that has slowed down the communication. Just my opinion because it definitely wasn't like this when we started our design mid last year.

I just love my kitchen, they had exactly what I was looking for, the quality is very good. And Steve has even replaced a few pieces that were damaged in transit.

Thanks Monica - This is super helpful and hopeful. I’m about to place and order with Mix-It Modern (if they ever get back to me) and I’m also just wondering about the quality of the fronts and how they are holding up since there is almost no information out there on them. Can any one share their experience re: quality/longevity? Particularly with the matte thermofoil. The samples I got chipped/peeled pretty easily in a couple places on corners/ edges already but I’m hoping that was just a handling/sample issue. I’m really hoping to go with them for both budget and style but ready to pivot quickly as doing my kitchen in May.

Glad I could be of help, theres definitely limited info out there. I cant talk to longevity since we installed in November. but as for quality, the fronts seem to be pretty sturdy and high quality, I don’t have any concerns at this point. We also got the matte thermofoil. The only damage I saw was due to poor packing for two of my door fronts, but he came through on getting me replacements. Regarding the sample, this may just be me, but when I initially received my sample I didn’t realize there was a plastic film on top of it until my husband pointed it out.

I’ll upload a couple of photos in case you want another visual. (We are still designing the finsh for our range hood.)

    Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Monica. Your kitchen looks great! How long did it take to get your doors once you paid for the order?

I just ordered last week and now it's radio silence, like the other commenter. I can't get a call or email back from them about delivery date. Thanks!

Mimi, how long did it take for you to get your order actually placed? I have had a couple delayed emails over last month answering questions but finally sent order details email last Thursday request quick call to go over. I’ve called and sent followup emails. Radio silence. About to move on if don’t hear back. Crazy. Thx!

Hi, ordering was pretty quick. But, after paying for it last Tuesday, I haven't received any responses to my numerous emails or voice mails about delivery time. They advertise 2-3 weeks, but sounds like the other commenter has been waiting longer and getting radio silence too...

Thanks - good to know! Two weeks ago, Steven said back on track now and no supply chain issues. So if your order is in, and assuming it went to production, you should be in good shape. But the lack of communication is killer.

same here. order had been delayed for a month and now its past the new estimated time. No updates or response via email, and nobody picks up calls.

Hi, I ordered back in mid-October (?) and received the fronts in a few shipments before/after Thanksgiving. I currently still have some outstanding items that I am waiting for as well and havent heard back to my emails/phone calls. We had some slowdowns during the design and ordering phases with communication, but something has definitely changed.

Complete and udder nightmare working with Mix it Modern just absolutely horrible.

Something seems to be off with the yelp reviews. I just posted this review, and suddenly there is nowhere to be found! Buyers are aware

  • last year

I hate to write this bad review, especially for a small business. But I have no other option left here. We bough kitchen cabinet door from mixit little more than a year ago. The original order had missing parts (which is still understandble) but I have ben trygin to email Steven for over a year now and have received 0 responses. There is no concentp of cusomter support. Please do not order unless you want to be stuck with a half done kitchen.
