Would like ideas on paint color and placement of cabinets/appliances

Some posters on the kitchen table told me I should post here about my upcoming kitchen remodel. It won't happen until sometime next year (2021). Will post some current pictures. I don't want to spend over $25,000 for everything. I don't care about expensive appliances and am never going to buy a $5000 or more oven or fridge. I am probably going to buy all new appliances. I like white and black, although, not sure the black will look good in a white cabinet kitchen. I don't like stainless steel, except for the dark grey/light black one I saw at Lowes a few weeks ago. It was a Samsung and probably more than I want to spend or will fit in my small kitchen. I found a pretty white, sparkly, Corian counter at Home Depot that I thought I took a picture of but now can't find it on my phone.

A friend suggested I put the sink in the corner instead of below the window, not sure I like that idea. It would free up a lot of space. Some at the KT mentioned taking out the french doors and putting a single door, thereby adding more counter space. That might be an idea. I want all drawers on the bottom cabinets except for the one housing the trash and recyclables. I also want a separate cook top and wall oven or an conventional oven with a microwave over it. I'm also going to look into other types of stoves. I've only ever used a gas oven and conventional electric. I really don't want gas and hate cleaning the burners on my current electric stove.

I also want cabinets up to the ceiling, so no dusty tops to dust as I get older. A single sink would be fine. I don't want granite countertops. I'm also looking for pictures of green walls with white cabinets. All the ones I've seen on this site are gray-green or lime green or very pale green...not what I want, more an avacado green, or maybe sage green? I can't find current pictures to fit what I'm looking for. I also do not want plain, modern type cabinets. I like traditional raised panel ones that everyone hates these days. I don't like my current cabinets because they are so plain and are wearing. Not sure anyone can help me with the design or placement of appliances but thought I'd try.

I also forgot to mention, I really do not like subway tile, especially white subway tile.

    The layout of the kitchen.

    the rest of the kitchen:

The door to the garage is next to the fridge and the laundry closet is in back of the island.

Next is the dining area, excuse the mess, in the middle of decluttering and deep cleaning. The dust collector in the right hand corner will be gone. I'm thinking of putting a group of cabinets up to the ceiling to use as a pantry. In the other corner will go a breakfast nook with built in seating and smaller table.

The flooring will be changed too, to match the rest of the house:

JHMarie, I've been wanting white cabinets for years. I just like the way they look and like them in a tiny kitchen like mine.

I think white cabinets will look fine in raised panel - glad you are finally getting what you want:) I have a friend with white appliances in her white kitchen and it looks really pretty. The wood floor will give it warmth. You will want to check your cabinet paint color with your appliances to be sure they work together. They don't have to match - just work well - one should not make the other look dingy or not white. I did a refresh on my kitchen a few years ago, and my favorite thing is the under cabinet lighting - put it on your list. My older eyes love the light especially this time of year.

I am a little worried that white cabinets, white appliances and white countertops will be too much white. I will probably do the green walls with no backsplash so if I get tired of the wall color I can paint and not have to worry about matching a backsplash.

Is this basically a gut remodel? Tearing out and replacing everything? And changing the layout? I am concerned that $25,000 may be too low for that. Would that include labor?

Stillpitpat, haven't decided on changing the layout yet. I was asking for ideas on what would be best. I am probably not going to be buying the most expensive cabinets, countertops or appliances and it is a tiny kitchen. I could possibly tear things out with help. I am not moving walls. I may take out the french door and put in a single door but would do that this year, if I decided to do that. I'm already planning on replacing the front door this year and shutters on the front of the house.

I do have a local cabinet maker giving me a rough estimate, just haven't gotten it back yet.

My friend with the white kitchen has a granite with a green cast to it, a wood floor and a light blue green bead board ceiling. I wish I had a picture. It is somewhat vintage in style to match her older home. I don't think I would like that greenish granite in any other kitchen, but it looks great in hers. There is a greenish marble, but hers is granite. I mention it because you like the sage green. It is similar to this pic. She has a vintage farm sink and a couple of her door have glass inserts. She is not overly formal about the glass door cabinets, but they have some green vintage dishes in them. She does not have a tile backsplash like this kitchen.

Hopefully you will like the quote. It's just that cabinets and labor are expensive, even with a small kitchen and no layout changes. Def cheaper if you stick with the same layout.

try doing different layouts on graph paper. add 2' on the left of your counter (as if you have more space because you put in a smaller patio door), put in a 30" sink cabinet (space to access plumbing), dw to the left of the sink etc. Add in a longer island to match the length on your sink run. That might give you a better visual.

are you cabinets in good condition? could you have the uppers (at least) painted and add new doors in the style you like? check the cost of that vs all new uppers. I don't know if the same could be done with the base cabs and have them refitted with drawers. Someone on here probably knows if that can be done and if it'd be cheaper or end up costing as much or more than all new. or put in Ikea base cabinets and add drawer fronts that you like.

If you put in uppers to the ceiling, would you be able to reach things on the upper shelves? I wouldn't, I can barely reach my 2nd shelf up. I had a handyman divide up my 1st shelf. He put in a 6" deep shelf for me. I put saucers and bowls on it. the bottom one I have plates and cups and the bowls I use the most for soup. I knew I'd never be stacking a dozen or so plates or bowls anyway. I'd bought a set of dishes for 4 for me.

Would it be cheaper to just encase the area above your cabinets so dust doesn't collect up there?

jhmarie, I like that kitchen! The counters are so pretty.

Kathsgrdn, it is good that you are thinking far ahead in starting to plan.

I think that I mentioned on your other thread that I was able to re-do my kitchen (new cabinets, new appliances/sink/fixtures, new lighting, both ceiing and undercabinet, a new window, moving the location of the stove and fridge, new flooring, removing wallpaper and fixing walls) for well under $25k.

It will mostly depend on shopping hard for what you want, finding cabinets in your budget (mine were made by a cabinetmaker, but there are other good options) and finding a contractor to do all the rest within the budget.

What worked for me is I made a list of everything that I wanted a contractor to do, stating what I would be buying (cabinets, lights, appliances, granite, flooring), and approached several with the list. Some seemed to just have a standard price of $25K and wanted to supply everything as well, but there were others with fine references that were fine with how I wanted to do it, and the one I picked worked out well.
