Climbing rose for morning sun which can be very hot in the sumer

I would love to find a climbing rose which will only have morning sun. Half of our summer days are 90+ so it would be a hot spot until about 1pm in the summer.

I would really love a peach rose but lavender, pink, or even white would also work.

The eves are 9 ft up so having one that doesn't grow too tall would be good.

And of course I'd prefer thorns that weren't too big!

Westerland looks wonderful but may be too big.

Hello Ginny,

I am not sure what is your gardening zone, and that would make the biggest difference on finding the perfect rose. My summers are warm and humid (always over 90) in the south eastern USA.

Bathsheba from David Austin would probably work for what you want. I don't know much about the thorns on this one, so maybe others will chime in on that respect.

crepuscule rose is another beautiful peach/orange climber.

Crown Princess Margareta from David Austin is also beautiful, but gets some black spot in my garden so it depends where you are.

Lady of Shalott can also be grown as a climber in warmer zones. It is also very healthy where black spot is prevalent.

Alchymist is a gorgeous peachy climber and can be pruned to the size you want.

Crepuscule would be great in a hot climate. I have and love Alchymist too, but it only blooms in Spring of course while Crepuscule repeats.

Thank you ladies for your ideas, I will look them up shortly. None of you mentioned a problem with the hot sun beating on that part of the house on summer mornings so I'll assume I should go ahead and try a rose!

I am in Zone 9B, San Jose California . I will add it to my name as I see others have done it - good idea!

I think some have cooked roses against hot walls in Calif for sure, but Crepuscule could be as good a bet as any. Ingrid cooked some plants at her hot home including Reve d'Or.

...besides, morning sun is not nearly as bad and hot afternoon sun, methinks.
