Quote for a water well - no tank?

Hi there, first post of probably many.

I'm fetching quotes to get an idea of a new home construction project in Cali hi desert.

I contacted a local drilling company to get a water well estimate, asking for well, pump, and tank. The reply I get is a quote for the well and pump, and the guy says "depending on productivity a tank might not be needed" and then says that it'd be about $7500 for tank and installation.

that seems steep... from quick research it seems like a simple system, materials seem like $1000 for pump and parts, and labor maybe a days worth?

2) quick research also seems to say that a tank extends life of a pump.. wouldn't it always be beneficial to get a tank installed?

Most wells in my area (Pennsylvania) do not use a tank unless there are issues with flow rates.

we're going to have a pressure tank - but the plumber is doing it - not the well driller. Maybe there is a miscommunication? and yes $7500 seems quite high when the tanks are about $1K as you said.

Around here, the pressure tank is not done by the well driller. All you might get is the well, the casing, a cap, and the pump with wiring at the well head. Going from the well head to the house would be additional and perhaps the responsibility of a plumber (trenching, laying pipe, electrical supply, etc). The pump would be tested (I hope) using a separate electrical supply (generator).
