I don't think you're being too picky. I'd want uniform spacing between all the tiles, and I'd want it tiled near the edge, not those huge grout gaps.

What does the rest of the shower look like? What kind of waterproofing did he do?

Walls and bench red guarded. Floors were not.

Holy Cow! These hex tiles have straight edges, allowing the tile setter to see the spacing between the individual sheets much more easily than with penny tiles. Unless the sheets had uneven spacing between the tiles, this was not a good job. Can you show us a photo of the mosaic tile sheets so we can see the spacing? Mine were from The Builder Depot (click on link to see a sheet of mosaic) and my experienced contractor gave me this:

If your mosaics were spaced as well as the ones in my link, then your tile setter could have done a lot better. If the sheets were not this regular in spacing, then it is the fault of the person who chose the brand of mosaic that was used.
