The leaves look like they might be slightly fuzzy or scaly. Is that the case?

I like it, but not A. canarianse, which appears to be an annual. The growth habit looks more like a perennial, to me. The stem looks somewhat woody

Now to hunt down other Aizoon species.

After checking out Aizoon, I have to go with A. canariense.

It is native to the area, unlike all other spps.

All web sites list it as an annual, with the exception of Kew's POWO, which lists it as an annual or perennial. Overall appearances (size and environment) and Kew both concur.
