help me break up this sea of beige!

I currently have sw latte color walls, beige granite, and beige/cream curtains. It’s all very blah for lack of a better word. I’ve been trying to update this room a bit and have come up with two possible solutions. What do you think would be the better of the two? Or of course, if you have a better solution, please share! 1. Add a more colorful rug and light ivory linen curtains to break up the beige, or 2. Change the paint to a shed win Williams sea salt (grayish green).

Oh that is exciting news for you! My only suggestion is keep the navy blue print large and bold..high contrast between the blue and off white background..it will shown better under table and chairs and make a bigger impact in the room.

I’m going to buy the multicolor one for my mudroom. We’re also going to build white lockers in place of the piece furniture that’s in there now.

As I was finalizing my decision, I came across this rug. What do you think of a softer blue and white?

You are welcome. I sanded a large mirror recently cause I just wanted a softer look... so I'm waiting for the creative urge to hit me! to use my chalk paint … [between laundry, and other things I'm catching up on while at home.] :)

So we are thinking of painting our kitchen/dining space sw alabaster white. We recently used that color to replace our beige living room and love it. Do you think it would work in this space or would it be too blah to paint most of the downstairs the same color?

Do it ; will feel open & bigger :)

Thank you! Our other concern is our cabinets are painted an antique white. I’m hoping our white subway tiles will help pull the alabaster snd cream cabinets together. I’m worried they might appear yellow.

@Home Interiors with Ease my husband is on board w/ painting our latte walls! What color would you recommend? We were thinking alabaster as we painted our living room that color and love it. A pro suggested that might be too yellow and would clash w/ my cabinets and make them appear even more yellow. She suggested a white that leans more red. My cabinets are painted an antique white. I was hoping alabaster, which matches our subway tiles, would make the cabinets appear creamier. Thanks in advance for your help.

Wow that is exciting! Will really open up the room visually..I know you have wanted white walls for a long time...did you ever get a new rug and move your art around? Let me look at alabaster and antique white...I will check back

Are the cabinets Sherwin William Antique White?

I'm a very slow moving person, Julie:(. So, I've been holding on the rug until the room is painted. Do you think Alabaster white walls would work for my space or would you think it'll be strange to paint 2 of the 4 downstairs rooms the same color?

I'm limited because of my antique white cabinets... I am hoping the alabaster or a different white will help the cabinets look creamy. Alabaster matches my subway tiles perfectly, so that's why I thought it would work. A different pro said alabaster is too yellow and one that leans more red would work w/ all the red elements in my space. My husband is planning on painting it this week. I am getting samples after work.

My cabinets were originally glazed. I had the cabinet makers repaint them antique white. I would love to repaint them alabaster white.

But you're planning on painting the cabinets Alabaster white also, correct? Do you want a little contrast on the kitchen and dining room walls or for it to blend? If you painted EVERYTHING AW it would flow with your living room and maybe really open everything up.

Ok with a bit of research...
Antique White is the hardest color to calm down if used on cabinets...most want to go lighter on the walls and that can actually make the yellow in the antique white stand out even more.,,I guess what I am saying is you have to embrace the color because it will always look like a light yellow when paired with lighter colors..unfortunately it is the one whites that should never be suggested for cabinets..best on walls...with that said...I have come up with some lighter creamy whites that will complement but will not tone down the yellow in the cabinets but they will stay warm no matter what...and Alabaster is on the list!

If it is a option to paint the cabinets than I would paint your walls first see how you like the combination..if the cabinets still are too yellow for your new look..paint the cabinets Alabaster....depending on what direction you go with accents and colors the warm cabinets might mix in well especially if you are still wanting to bring in shades of blue...it’s all about color balance..

What is your trim color throughout the house?

Wow, thank you so much!! I wish I could turn back time and not have chosen this color six years ago!! Ugh. I'm not sure what color my husband used on our trim, but it's similar to simply white... (bright white?). It's a shade lighter than alabaster.

How does that look in your other space? The bright white trim with alabaster?

  • PRO

I would remove a cabinet door and take it into the alabaster room with white trim..it will exactly show you how this combination works together and if you have backsplash tile add that too.

I’m not sure how my husband would feel about adding navy, but he has mentioned black.

My husband wants to know if you think leaving the walls our current color will be best?! I’m panicking!! I told him we should paint one wall to see what we think. I’m worried we will be stuck with this awful color forever!! I’ll keep you posted

I think I would do a creamy white so the cabinet doesn’t stand out so much..unless you like yellow..it is pretty if you follow through.

Love that so much!! Thank you!!!!!

So my husband decided to try alabaster since we had some on hand. I’ll keep you posted.

AB all your house trim is so bright white....I really think you should tone that bright white trim down even if you do Creamy walls....or are you thinking of painting the cabinets?

Our subway tiles were color matched to Sherwin Williams nacre. Our walls are alabaster white. Nacre looks too yellow/beige to me. Do you think it’ll look better painted alabaster to match the walls?

White drapes to match the trim and a lighter color rug with some white ?
