Best hardwood/tile color combination for dark wood baseboards?

I'm looking to replace the carpet in my living room with either hardwood/tile, however, I'm not sure what color to go with? My house has primarily dark wood for its accents and baseboards (probably a dark walnut or mahogany...not sure). I'm concerned with doing my floors too matching and the whole house feeling too dark any recommendations?

What is the flooring in adjacent spaces? Post some photos.

I like to see floors (if they aren't matching the exact colour of trim) to be 2-3 steps lighter than wood trim. The trick is to be in the SAME TONES as the trim. That is to say, if your trim has a reddish tone/base, then the wood flooring should be in the same reddish tones. It if is brown/gray tones (like dark walnut) then the wood should be in the same brown/gray tones.

Photos are hugely helpful. Please up load them with your answer. Make sure they are in jpg format and please allow them to load completely...Houzz can be really slow so give it a minute (or 5).

@JAN MOYER@SJ McCarthy I've attached here a few photos of the surrounding environment within the house. Please excuse the mess for now and I apologize for not posting pics sooner, it's my first time on here.

I'm just now starting this process and I do like the tile in my office (last image) but am thinking about changing it as well, my fear is that that tile all the way through the living area may be too dark. Thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Oh dear. Now we have too many things going on. You have 3 different floors within several feet of each other. You have two DIFFERENT tiles and carpet. The carpet you wish to be rid of...by using either hardwood or tile.

Sigh...so many things going wrong (design-wise) right now. Please do NOT place hardwood NEXT TO fake-wood looking product. That means if you KEEP the wood-look tile you should NOT have real hardwood sitting next to it.

The other no-no would be two DIFFERENT wood-look products sitting next to each other. That is a design faux pas on par with real wood sitting next to fake wood. Sigh...Now what do we do?

You have one of two choices: add MORE of the wood-look tile (probably not possible due to lack of product) OR you remove the wood look tile and do it ALL in the same product. Most man-made products (like your tile) have a shelf life of (roughly) 2 years. If you JUST put in the tile in the office you MIGHT be able to find more...but it won't be in the same dye lot so be prepared for a colour variance.

Either way you are looking at a SINGLE floor in the office-living space. As for the colour, you could do something very simple. Replace the carpet with a product that is the same colour/depth of colour. You already have that same colour in the office. You've done it once (successfully). You can do it again. You are set up nicely for a gray/taupe so you might as well keep using it.

ARGH! Why why WHY do they build houses with those carpet "zones" within tile?! It's infuriating because you can never just remove the carpet and extend the tile into that area. I used to live in AZ and saw this a lot and it is so irksome! It's expensive but the only way to really do this "right" is to remove the carpet and surrounding tile and make it all the same. If the wood look tile used in your office hasn't been discontinued try to use that. I feel for you...this is a headache!
