Early Signs of Spring // Pre-emergent Application

Central Massachusetts zone 5b.

We have had an incredibly mild winter with very little snow cover,

I was out today and noticed some of the trees have buds and forsythia plants show signs of blooming. I even saw a PJM rhododendron with visibly pink blooms. This is approximately 4 to 6 weeks early for my area.

I use the blooming of the forsythia as a sign to apply a pre-emergent weed control to the lawn .

Should I apply the pre-emergent now or should I wait for the usual early to mid May time frame.
