Is there a way to get yews to fill in?

Took out some overgrown yews in front of my foundation. On a whim, decided to leave the one on the end (for now at least). It appeared to be a different type of yew that grew more into a tree-type formation rather than the shrubs most of us know. The problem is, it's pretty sparse after years of poor maintenance. Thinking of keeping it if I can get it to fill in to a more attractive shape, but will rip it out and replace it if it's going to take multiple years. Is there a garden trick to get them to fill in?
