How do I stop my protea dying?

I have a protea planted on my patio. It gets approximately 5hrs of direct sun and partial shade for the majority of the rest of the day. It is also planted in Australian native potting mix. The leaves are drying out and dying, can you tell me what I need to do to save it?

Remove it from the planter, check the roots and original potting soil it came in for signs of being too wet or dry.
