I need help with my guest room, photo options

last modified: 5 years ago

Trying to get my guest room all completed but need some assistance with the selection of bedding. Furniture will stay as-is, might add more throw pillows, small rug and throw blankets.

See options:

1. black cover + white duvet

2. White cover + black duvet

3.white cover + beige duvet

4. Beige cover + white duvet (will tuck in beige overhang)

Photo # 6 is just to show the furniture on the opposite side of the room. All photos are woodsy themed with dark browns, yellow, natural tones as shown.

Let me know your top 2 favourites. :)

THANK YOU!!

Love, Miss Indecisive!

    #2

what did you decide in your LR?

#3. BUT... I'd marry the black chests to the bed area by adding a pillow with black accents to the bed-

Thank you for the feedback! SO helpful! :)

Maybe I'll add a black throw pillow to #3 and possibly paint the wall with the headboard black? What do you guys think? Too much?

Defiantly #3 for summer! Nice room!

I vote for #2 because black and white is such a classic look that never goes out of style! I would add a couple of throw pillows in a pop color like red.

Clearly everyone likes #3 except me. I would do #1. If not #1 then #2. I would be happy with either combo. I love black and white bedding.

#2 rotate the pillows for seasonal color, no to a black wall. Maybe a wallpaper if you want to add more drama

I would suggest geometric black and white wallpaper instead of a black wall. Can you post a photo of the entire wall?

    my vote is #3 & #4

i think i would lose the white pillows and definitely bring some pattern/accent color into the mix

The headboard is throwing everything off. I would recover it in black. Then do white sheets, black duvet and possibly white folded faux fur or folded thin white bed scarf at foot. I would also bring more black to artwork and add gold pillow to bed and gold vase lamps to night stands.

    One option with bolder elements.

I like #1 or #2. But I would change either the headboard (re-up or even stencil) or the wall behind it. In these pics, they aren't working well together. Of course, it may look different IRL. New pillows would depend on that change.

Which would be easier? Changing headboard color or wall paint color? That would hinge on the flooring, of course. Looks like you can go with a dramatic or a more subdued color palette. Which do you prefer? My vote would be for #7--Flo’s first photo. That yellow-gold bench looks awesome, too. It doesn’t look like you would have room, but maybe you could use that color in your chair, even if it’s just a throw. I look forward to seeing what you do!

Thank you all for the feedback, this is fantastic! I played around with the bedding and have decided on #2 white with black at the base. I plan to switch up the pillows...currently in a quarantine making heading to the store impossible but making due with what I have on hand to get an idea and plan together. I plan to use 4 standard size white pillows against the headboard with yellow and black throw pillows.

I'd love to change the headboard to black as suggested however seems like a big job. I'm thinking of adding a wallpaper to that back wall instead to tie in more black. Also adding a tiny black rug for the feet area. Also throw blanket might be changed to a yellow one same colour as pillow.

I've included photos of the art and hardwood to get a better idea of what I was talking about.

Loving your reccos! Took them all into consideration!

OK, the bed looks like a twin? Anyway, when you can, it would be good to find one pillow that ties in your beige headboard. If you DIY at all, you could easily recover that headboard with material that might work better.

It looks really nice ... a pretty, serene, and comfortable room. Your guests will love it, I’ll bet. :)

I’m not a seamstress, so have no idea how it’d be done, but I keep picturing black piping around the outline of the headboard. Wish I could find an inspiration picture!

ETA: Ok, found one ... something similar to this:

you both are onto something! I need to add the black drama to wither the headboard or through wallpaper. I think that will help tie things together better, plus better throw pillows.

Wrapping the headboard with black fabric is a whole lot easier than wallpaper and takes less time than painting. It can be pinned together on the back side where it won't be seen.

You might be able to buy nice black trim roping and hot glue it onto your headboard.

Just posting a room much like yours. It's not awful - the art above headboard helps I think... ? and black lamps form a contrasting triangle...

I love your floor color and your art! Very rich. You have chosen to go dramatic, and it will be awesome! If I were you, I would have someone make a black slipcover for your headboard and be done!

I can’t tell what size your bed is, but I’m very happy with a set of Euros, a set of standards, and one long accent pillow on my double and queen beds. On the queens, I sometimes add a second or third accent pillow, depending on size and shape. And I think they look awesome. Your pics do not appear to have two many pillows, imo. You’re going a great job!

Thank you for the feedback. This is so helpful. I was adamant about stencil art on the feature wall but after sleeping on it I think I am going to take your advice and create a slip cover for my headboard in a black with white pattern. This will give me the pop I'm looking for and black balance.

Any suggestions on where to find fabrics for this? Type of fabric which works best? Let me know :)

I do like herringbone pattern or even subtle stripes.

Awesome! A pattern had crossed my mind, too. I don’t have any specific ideas, but I would keep your art in mind so that the mood of your room stays the same. Something classic like herringbone sounds “right.” [imo--not a pro]

Do not clutter the bed with a ton of pillows some nice more lumbar type in a pattern would be nice . I think to recover the headboard would not be difficult if you have basic sewing skills and for sure a seamstress could do it . I like a black and white with a touch of yellow . You need lamps they will be the bling in the space . I love gold or silver leaf done with a stencil on a wall . I also like much more tailored bedding like a coverlet instead of duvets and then a beautiful throw at the end of the bed. I always think 5 star hotle for guest rooms I even added a coffee maker in ours.

In a small room with enough black, I think there are other ways, like a pro does show, to make that wall contrasting a bit, interesting, etc...

I've decided to cover the headboard and change up the pillows to reduce the clutter. Will post finished result once completed.
