POLL: Attached or Detached Garage - Which is better?
Comments (131)What's a garage? Or a driveway? Just kidding. For the past 19 years we've lived without a garage of any type. We have a lane way & many people put a detached garage in the backyard. We chose to have a backyard & built an oversized shed to house the 15' canoe. We now want to convert it to a heated shop or build an oversized single car garage. I'd take a detached one because mice will use the garage as an easy entrance. I'd like attached for those -20+C days in January & the June downpours. Hot days I welcome getting blasted when I walk outside, it's the payoff after winter....See MoreFruit Trees
Comments (93)We reside in Chicago, but our heart is out west. About ten years ago my husband had a Meyer lemon tree shipped to us. In lives out side from May through October inside through the winter where we enjoy the fragrance of its blooms if you are not familiar think gardenia. We average about 40 lemons a year we do share some while most are used for lemon drop martinis. It is a pleasure to share with the locals that citrus has varieties and for those who are very unfamiliar a band-aid after they encounter a spike. For those who are having trouble growing their lemon trees ours is potted, we use only organic potting soil and citrus food. We did pay more for a larger tree and had lemons the second year....See MorePlease help me finish our master bedroom
Comments (202)Your wall color is a good neutral. Turn the rug at an angle to give visual interest to the floor and break up the linear look. Use the duvet in another room. Use a bold pattern brown/combo of blues for the comforter/shams, then use sold dark brown or dark blue for the backdrop pillows behind the bed pillows, then decor pillows in a contrasting popping color. Use large bed lamps like Ralph Lauren stacking blue Chinese globe lamps. Over the low dresser, get rid of the picture, hang a very large gold framed mirror with a streamlined gold frame, this will also add lumination to the room. On either side of mirror, another set of large lamps. Move the tall dresser over, add wing chair to whichever side and put a contrasting throws and decor cushion. If you hang any pictures, hang ones that pop but coordinate somewhat with the other colors in room. Look at decorative shower curtains for the windows, they come in a variety of whites and patterns and are not expensive so you can but four and look lush. Get a great curtain rod with decorative ends. Expensive look, not a lot of money. Corner by bathroom, good popping chair with ottoman, all in coordinating colors, but interesting to the eye. Take pictures of the room at all various stages with you when you are shopping so you can visualize as you go. Now go have fun and be confident!!!!...See MorePOLL: Do you have fruit trees?
Comments (259)Right now I have Meyer lemon, Eureka lemon, Fuji apple, blood orange, naval orange, avocado, cherimoya, white sapote, Kaffir lime, yuzu, and ice cream banana (which has bananas on it right now). When I lived in Venice (CA), I had pineapple guava, Manila mango, papaya, and Texas red fig trees, plus a Valencia orange. I do miss the trees I had in Venice, but I only have so much room. I also grow pineapples, but they are not trees, although they definitely make fruit....See MoreBenT (8a Dallas, TX)
