I have a wide foot. Although my feet are smaller than a six, I always buy a six.

but for some reason in sneakers I need a half size up for them.

Look at New Balance. They have many difference styles, not just the clunky sneaker.

I also like Puma Prowl. They are cute and comfortable. And bonus for me a regular 6 1/2/fits.

My Pilates instructor is a running shoe minimalist. She has actually transitioned to running sandals (I forget the brand name) as she runs extreme long distance and it saves her toenails. Before that she wore Altras and she had to wear the shoes for part of the run and then transition to the sandals. She has a long narrow foot. I also wear a narrow shoe and have a high instep and wear Asics Gel Kayano. Can wear them out of the box with no problem. New Balance always gave me a heel blister as they were too big in the heel for me.

I wear Sauconys for all walking, trails, hiking etc and like them as they have little arch support. I also go barefoot at home and shoes with serious arch support are very uncomfortable to me. Chacos, for instance.

Shoes with structure are not comfortable for me. I have been tempted to paint my feet like shoes and be done with it.

I have found that some of the absolutely minimal "barefoot" styles are really comfy but can be slippery so I've moved to the trailrunning barefoot shoes with a tiny bit more traction but still barely there. I've had the most luck with Merril for some reason. Most of these you can pull on without messing with the laces.

I also got back to my roots recently and have been wearing Van's slipons. No arch support, zero drop, obnoxious colors optional. They're actually great for walking once you break them in.

I like Saucony as well, as they tend to have a roomier toebox than many other brands. Nike and many of the other popular brands are too narrow for the ball of my foot and cause me pain with long wearing.

I used to have some Jambu slip on sneakers that were quite minimalist and flexible. I absolutely wore them out completely. They do make a lot of low profile styles with flexible soles that are thinner than most big name brands. I like the elastic lacing that needs no tying.

FWIW, don't think you have to restrict yourself to 'walking' shoes, running shoes can work as well, or even better, since they are often made to stand up to more wear.

Carol, I completely agree about the toe box in Sauconys, I have big hobbit feet and the toe box is considerably wider than other brands.

I had a corn once between my pinkie and fourth toe and I couldn't see it until I yanked my foot up and into my face, but I was googling gout, diabetes, arthritis, broken bones, etc, it was THAT painful. All from too narrow toe box shoes.

My feet are wide with a narrow heel. Right now I'm liking Nike running shoes (Zoom line) for walking. I'm not a runner at all. There's plenty of room for my toes and yet my heel doesn't slip.

I think walking with a stable, supportive shoe is so important. The last thing any of us need is a twisted ankle because foot slipped in our shoe.

A brand known for their wide toe box and zero heel drop is Altra. They come in varying degrees of cushioning.

I need a wide toe box and I love my lems walkers as it's just like walking barefoot...the soles are so flexible you can bend them in half and it has zero heel height so it mimics being barefoot. But I would not recommend them for running. Walking however, I can go forever.
