I have outdoor thermometers that transmit to a display indoors (and record max and mins) so I know how my temperature compares to whichever weather service. If Accuweather says 32 degrees here I don't do anything other than watch the temperature. I think you'll be fine there.

but cold air is heavy ... and falls ... moves to low spots ... so i suspect it might be a bit warmer above ground ...

any air movement also lessens impact ...

I find the hostas in pots handle the cold nights badly. I think it is because the roots (and whole plant) get cold. If the pot is not in contact with the ground, it gets even colder. Smaller pots do worse than big ones. So, the ones on wire shelves are not in contact with any massive like the ground or concrete balcony are likely more vulnerable to cold (and heat) damage. Larger objects have more thermal inertia, in that it takes longer (more exposure) to get hot or cold. Picture a gallon of water in the freezer vs a single pocket in an ice cube tray.

Well, the lowest temp last night (thank goodness!) was 39.4 degrees F. My indoor/outdoor thermometer said it and NWS says it in their 24 hour history. I dodged a bullet with that one! I am hoping very much that one of the little houses I have my eye on will come on the market in the next few months and pan out as far as condition and other variables making it desirable to buy. Then my hostas will have raised beds to grow in, no more pots and wire shelving units. The COVID virus having killed the RE market, this may be delayed.
