Bathroom blues
Comments (64)I'm always of the mind that if you have the budget to do it right, then do it right and something that you love. However, if you don't have the budget to do it right, don't half-ass it - spend the least amount of money and still upgrade. All the suggestions above are great to get you a quality project. Here's the budget project: 1) Paint that cabinet blue to match the toilet & tub. (use a good grade paint) 2) Put fun pulls on the cabinet (these can be reused in the future) 3) Paint 2 walls a grey color 4) Wallpaper or paint 2 walls with something fun and interesting that you like. The photo below is from this link: http://www.spoonflower.com/designs?look=three&number=24&sort=newest&view=public and if you are interested in this design, please contact me (www.juniperriver.com) Spoonflower is an excellent resource for fabrics and wallpaper. We can also make them into shower curtains. This is an expensive way to customize and update your bathroom. 5) Add a glass shelf above the sink (the metal must match the faucet) 6) Paint the floor & add a fun throw rug from IKEA. note: IKEA is a renovators dream come true. Storage, storage, storage and it is clean-lined / simple looking. Again, if you have the cash do the real upgrade by changing out all the fixtures and new flooring. The above suggestion is if you literally want to spend around $300.-/ max. Enjoy!...See MoreHope for urine-stained oak hardwood floors
Comments (88)Sorry rjalx, if there is urine smell when you "seal" the floor, the odor will eventually come back. All it takes is a few days with relative humidity over 50% and the odor is back. The finish you used is pretty tough stuff, but with several months for it to really harden and a few more month of traffic and temperature changes, cracks though very small will form over the gaps between the boards which will allow small amounts of water vapor to get to the UN-neutralized urine residue (Urea salt) and the odor will return. Another point; there is no ammonia in urine of any kind. It is produced as the water evaporates from the raw urine and the uric acid begins to break down into ammonia and urea salt. This is a fine point but important because if the raw urine is removed before it dries there is almost no odor, and what there is is really easy to control or remove. Household chemicals are completely unsuited for urine odor removal. Try OdorXit Concentrate, you will be amazed....See MoreIdeas for outdoor patio
Comments (41)I would use plant troughs both inside in front of window and outside against the block wall. If it will grow a small variety of clumping bamboo against the outside wall and Sansivieria or philodendrons dotted with colourful Bromeliads in front of the window. I would prefer dark furniture for tropical look, replace the bar top with a Bamboo ply perhaps, or even use lengths of decking timber to cover the back wall or create a timber feature. Add colour to soft furnishings with bright greens, oranges, yellows or aqua blue. Soften edges with white sheer curtains and add Potted Kentia palms in interesting stone planters. I think the floor would look better natural than painted so polishing it to reveal the indivdual stones sounds great. Don't forget a little LED uplighting. Totally depends on the budget....See MoreI need a new rug for this room...
Comments (360)Hi Deb! Yes, it is indeed pretty - I love hydrangeas, especially blue ones! Have some white ones in my garden (Annabelles), that turn a gorgeous green color as the blooms age, but no blues or purples. If I lived near a PB, I'd go get me some like yours. Come to think of it, I am heading to Calgary next month......I wonder if I can squeeze some into my luggage?..... Anyway, I think your vignette stands perfectly well on its own, but I can also see a small objet next to the vase - something that makes you smile everytime you see it. Here are a couple of examples.....these would make me smile for sure, but you know I am I to birds lol....See Moremaddielee
