neutral beige paint color suggestions!

Looking to repaint our living room to make it lighter and brighter. I started painting it Edgecomb gray because it looked pretty beige on my walls but depending on the light can look pretty gray and not sure how I like that. I am trying to design around our couch color since we aren’t in the market for a new one with our puppy and baby. Should I go lighter and less gray? The second pic has BM “Winds Breath” on the left and Edgecomb on th right. I’m afraid winds breath is too light & not enough color

Because of your beige couch, I would stay away from grays, greiges, and beiges altogether, pick a nice light color that has a tint of blues or greens, or aquas, etc. It will go great with your beige furniture and most everything else.

I like SW accessible beige - it's neutral but also crisp and fresh and often works well with cool and warm colors.

As mentioned above, a lot depends on your light and furnishings. I had a light color turn green during the day because we had reflection from large windows looking out over a lush backyard.

As you are finding out beiges are not as neutral as you think . Why not think about an actual color like a soft grayed/ green instead , very neutral would show of the sofa and IMO a better choice that either beige or gray.I like Healing Aloe or Quiet Momnents from BM. Also make sure your lighting is LEDs in 4000K to get the colors to stay true at night .

Beige is one of the hardest colors to select. In selecting a beige for our living room we tested approximately 20 samples. Some were too pink, some too yellow, some too grey. The only way to find one that works is to test them in your space in all light conditions and next to your couch.

I think the grey can be darker

Edgecomb Gray is pleasant but very tricky color. It looks greenish with lack of light.

I like SW Relaxed Khaki in my east facing bathroom that gets lots of natural light. I also like SW Neutral Ground as a lighter option.

I love BM bleeker beige paired with BM quiet moments!

I think relaxed khaki might be too dark for what we are looking for. We had a color similar to that before, but we really want to lighten and brighten the room. Our living room is tricky - we have skylights. So it can be very bright in there at times, but also shadowy. This is why I initially thought Edgecomb gray appeared more beige, but realize now, it’s pretty gray, esp at night.

I will look into SW natural linen & neutral ground. Our kitchen is a bluish green color so I was trying to stick to neutral for the living rooms but happy to hear all suggestions. It makes it harder right now not being able to get to the store to get paint swatches

This picture right here is the style I was going for.. clean, crisp and bright. I know my couch isn’t exactly that color but it is similar

I think neutral ground may be a good choice. It was just a bit too dark for me, but I did like it a lot.

Our house has a lot of beige, which we like. It looks completely different depending on the time of day and where the light is coming from.

For example, when we asked the painter to repainted the same colour, he correctly identified the hallway as Shaker Beige. He took the fan deck into the kitchen and sort of couldn't believe his eyes that it was also Shaker Beige- it looked so completely different.

So I think the advice to go with a different colour on the wall is excellent. Your sofa is actually a sort of muted pinkish/orange colour.

For those recommending another color, what color would you suggest? I always just pictured a lighter neutral color. I figured I couldn’t go wrong, but I guess I can!

You mention your sofa will be with you for awhile, so choose a paint for it. I recommend B.M. Tapestry Beige because of the faint green undertone which will show better with the warm upholstery color.

This on-line clip isn’t the best for viewing, as it shows much darker than it is….it is still a beige.

My decorator told me that beiges are are the most difficult colours to work with. Considering how many times I screwed up before I hired her, I believe it.

A beige with a green undertone will contrast with your sofa. I thought that was what you didn't like about your previous colours.

I tried to put your sofa into SW's colour visualizer but couldn't get it to work for some reason. If I were you that would be my first step.

Well I guess my post went into the netherworld.

I was commenting that SW Natural Linen is on my short list, and that the link that @drdeb1234 included above has some good photos of the paint colors in rooms. The one of the Natural Linen looks very promising.

Now that I look over the newer posts, I do think @JudyG Designs's suggestion of BM Tapestry Beige looks pretty good as well.

It is dicey because depending on humidity where you live, colors look soooo different....we lived in the high humidity Midwest for years and used cool greens, and when we moved to high desert area in the southwest with zero humidity and the greens looked like MUD on the wall.....lol.....keep looking and maybe consider hiring a designer for a color consultation which is a small price when you are painting your whole house.....

Natural tan. Or wool skein. Both soft without being yellow

Checking out all of the color suggestions! I will have to take a better picture of my couch/living room. Would love to redo everything but would say that we prob only have 2-3yr left in this house before we move, so just wanted to freshen it up.. get new curtains & paint pretty much. I feel like the couch is an odd color & we hate this material. Live & you learn!

Here is a better picture of our living room. Any design suggestions appreciated

I would choose something like SW Comfort Grey/Oyster Bay or BM Quiet Moments. I am currently also in the market for an open concept color. I am struggling with a griege or an actual color. BM Revere Pewter has always been my go to.

Here is a picture showing bleeker beige in background and quiet

moments in foreground. Also the ceiling in the bleeker beige room is also quiet moments

With lights on....lol so much brighter in person!

You might also look at SW Canvas Tan.

ooh and another good one to consider- SW Maison Blanche.

I have that in my basement gorgeous but it reads very light in my home.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I am going to order paint swatches online from SW.

Does anyone think that the Edgecomb Grey actually goes? I like it when it looks more beige but at night and in the shadowy spots it looks really grey

I found this picture as photo inspiration too. while more windows, it’s more similar than the other. cant Wait to get some paint swatches this week from SW but I think this is the vibe I decided on I feel it’s a lot easier to play with neutral and add in pops of color other ways when you are far from a professional

Looks like Pale oak is what you are looking for. It’s a beautiful light Greige.

funny you suggested that. pale oak was one of my top choices. Its the left one in this picture. Edgecomb gray is the middle and winds breath to the right. Pale oak seems to look a lot lighter and a lot more gray than I thought it would be

The problem I see is that that you can’t go with clean or crisp because you can’t ignore your couch. It’s is to dark and will stand out. You will never be happy. I suggested pale oak because that is what you want. (Light and clean) Personally, I would go with a color. Are you keeping the Curtains? I would def. try and use those to pull the space together. I have quiet moments in my bathroom (it was suggested) and it reads green when you compare it to blue. (Towels are a pretty blue and they don’t go well)

@katinparadise do you have a sample picture of neutral ground? I can’t seem To find one on the internet

@julieste do you have a sample picture of natural linen?

I have a lot of beige in my condo. My walls are painted BM Clay Beige and it is a true beige without pink or green undertones. You might want to get a sample.

    BM Manchester Tan?

This is pale oak no light and soft light it is more gray then beige but definately has beige in it.

    Here's one I found.

Choosing a paint color from someone else's photo is really not easy since lighting is so tricky in photos.

This is still a work in progress. Top photo is Natural Linen wall with SW Pure White woodwork. In my photo it looks to have a pinky cast; this isn't the case in person.

The wall with the samples is SW Natural Linen on upper left, SW Divine White lower left, and SW Nacre (definitely has a greenish cast) on the right. I was also looking for another shade just a tad lighter than the Natural Linen, and Divine White (obviously, not at all a white) is perfect.

@oreolucca1 @C Hogan i tried another stab at pale oak but a much bigger section this time. This is in the morning in natural light only. What do you think?

I think it’s pretty. As long as you resize it may look a little grayer but I think that it will look nice of you lighten some things up like pillows etc. I actually like tan grey and creams and you could bring in some navys for more color.

I also like maison Blanche for a creamy white with a slight bit of beige in it. It’s in my basement.

SW Accessible Beige is very neutral. My daughter used it throughout the main rooms in her home and it’s gorgeous

@oreolucca1 it got much more gray toned as the day went on. see pale oak on the right and winds breath left

Winds breath is lovely. If you want something lighter (which I am not sure you do) try maison Blanche. Again I would test in room it’s a very pretty creamy beige. Good luck.

I have always used BM White Sand - It's a beige with almost no undertones - a true beige.

Another strong vote for SW Kilm Beige!! LOVE it - hope you ordered a sample of it as well.

I have BM White Sand in my bathroom. It is a true beige without undertones.
