I do not like fake wood next to real wood because the fake wood always looks bad. There are a number of tile or stone look vinyl tiles that I think work well. We used CoreTec Vela in an upstairs bath next to the real hardwood. We really like how it looks.

I agree with smit2380--choose a vinyl that resembles something other than wood. You could also go with Marmoleum, a modern version of linoleum. It comes in many colors and styles, and is appropriate for a kitchen. You can design an infinite number of patterns, or go with a plain floor:

You won't find anything that matches but you will be able to find some things that will compliment. I like slate next to oak floors. If you can find a slate look vinyl that isn't too busy that would work well. Some have strong patterns and color variation, I would use something subtle.

I think the color of the vinyl should be a warm color, not a cool gray, such as a creamy neutral. And I agree with everyone else, do not choose a wood-look vinyl.
