Do you have an Indoor/Outdoor rug in your LR? KSWL inside

My plan was to order a new I/O rug for the porch but it's still in pretty good condition. Now I think I want to order one for the LR. It's the only thing right now to lighten up the room. The rug we have now is too dark. With two very large dogs who shed and drool, and like to sleep on the rug, an indoor/outdoor would be perfect, IMO.

KSWL, aren't you the one who has that fantastic, colorful rug? If so, would you post it here? I'm really leaning towards a rug with a white/cream background with lots of color on it. Not colors that take up the whole rug, I need a lot of white to show.

Have you all used I/O rugs inside? I read a lot of people are doing this now. Sounds good to me!

The large rug we have on the front porch gets soaked with freezing rain and snow in the winter. It will stay frozen for days, and there's no damage.

Here's an old picture of my babies, brother's Wolfie on the left, and Lobo on the right. Both dogs now weigh over a hundred pounds. When I open the front door they get in front of me, and we've had strangers practically jump backwards off the porch. Strangers have no idea the dogs would show them where the jewels are. :)

Forgive the old junk room, it's fixed up now.

We have a large I/O rug on our patio, and also one in our sunroom. We don't leave the one outside during the winter. I actually have a new one for the patio, and looking for a new one for the sunroom as we changed some of the furniture in there. They are great!

I have an indoor/outdoor rug (and runner) in my living room. I spent so much time looking at higher end wool rugs first...and then I looked at my kids and my dog and realized the time wasn't right. I needed a big one. I didn't know it was rated for outdoor use until I bought it (after first buying a runner to see how cheap it was in person).

It's holding up great, even the runner which is now the door mat in front of sliding doors that get a lot of pool and yard traffic.

It doesn't look expensive but it's really OK.

If you can find one with a tiny size to check the feel, I recommend doing so.

    I have this:

Yes, I do. They wear like iron, easy to clean, don't fade and are inexpensive.

I have one on my covered patio that stays out year around....gets rain, sleet, and snow blowed in on it. Plus the outdoor cat😉. Looks as good as new after 5 years.

That's the way mine is Tuesday. It sits outside all year, and since it's on the north side of the house it will get a lot of snow and stays frozen for days because it's in shade.

Where did you all get your rugs?

The measurement of the LR rug is 8' x 11'. I can find a 9' x 12' which would be good. So far I haven't found an I/O rug that size, but I haven't looked too hard.

I don't want to spend a lot of money either. I think my porch rug was around a $100, and the measurement on it is 6.5' or 7' x 9.5'.

Is Home Depot a good source for rugs? This is right up my alley but wrong color and size.

I have several I/o rugs.....a runner in the kitchen in front of the sink, one on the front porch, one on the screened porch, and one in a bathroom. I think mine all came from Overstock

I have a 5x8 in the kitchen of this house we’re renting. I LOVE it.

Mr G dropped an unopened red wine bottle on the tile next to the rug last week ... bottle broke, red wine gushed out like that blood/elevator scene in The Shining ... soaked through the I/O rug. I scrubbed it with a wet rag for a bit, you’d never know. I was sure I’d have to replace it.

This is ours — I ordered it here on Houzz in ‘18.

I believe I ordered from RugStudio.com over 10 years ago. Ballard Design sold it also. Take a look at their I/O rugs.

I didn't know Houzz sold rugs, I'll take a look tomorrow and at Rug Studio. I won't be able to afford Ballards. lol

Oakley, I wanted an inexpensive, large rug for our house last winter and some here at GW suggested Home Depot. Apparently since they have acquired Home Decorators they have access to lots of rugs. My quest was very successful and the process was easy. I ordered 4 rugs, tried them in my space and kept the one I loved. Of course, I have a pickup truck without that, returning 3 9x12 rugs would have been more difficult.

KSWL, in order for a new rug to make much of an improvement in the room, I'd need to get another large matching rug for the back of the room which has a 3k round persian. It was DH's baby, not mine. But it needs to be cleaned and it would cost hundreds of dollars. When I told DH last night a matching rug needs to go there he gave me a don't you DARE look. lol

It's a big room so one colorful rug in the TV seating area with sofa, chairs, coffee table won't hardly make a difference.

Is it hard selling Persian rugs that needs cleaning? It's in great condition but a few potty spots on it.

Local, Home Depot is first on my list. I had no idea they bought out Home Decorators. I ordered faux topiaries for my front door from HD years ago and was thrilled they delivered them. There's a HD 30 min. away but who wants to drive? :)

Is it possible that one could add blue to a room that has no blue? I do love the blues I'm seeing.

I have two very good products you can try, Oakley. First, my go to cleaner is a Woolite oxyclean hybrid that works on almost anything. It’s called Woolote instant spot remover with Oxyclean. Spray unril the spot is really wet, wait a few min, rub in and then put a folded towel or microfiber cloth over the spot and put a really heavy book on it (or several books) weighing at least 15 or 20 lbs. Then stand on the book for a minute and leave the whole thing there for a couple of days. Then remove the book(s) and cloth and vacuum because the nap will need that after being smushed so. Honestly that works almost always.

The other product I have is an aerosol spray cream called Spot Shot. Try it out on an inconspicuous area. It works a different way. I like the first method best for cleaning /removing stains. But if you have an old stain you’ve already tried to clean the Spot Shot is the one to try.

My experience has been that two highly patterned or colored rugs in the same room haven’t worked for me. More pleasing is a combination of one very “loud” rug and one that is quieter, both in pattern and color. Regardless of how big a room is, two very distinctive rugs will suck all the oxygen out of the room—- unless by chance you find two that work so well they transcend that “rule.” I never did!

Good luck, rugs are tough. i’ve always used them as the starting point of a design because I either already owned them or was struck by lightning and found one out of the blue without really looking. 😎

ETA both cleaning products available on Amazon.

    Check Esalerugs.

We have rugs that we use on covered patios from them. Prices are always discounted, sizes and colors are easy to search. Delivery was quick (before the Pandemic).

You need to show your room. I have no idea what colors you have in the room, so not sure about the room. I think if you add blue to a room that has no blue, you need to bring in some more blue (pillows, art, etc.), I would not do matching rugs, but instead two rugs that work well together. I would spend the money to have the one rug cleaned, and then buy a new rug for the other area that works with it.

It's not indoor/outdoor, but it's olefin or polypropylene...never fades, wears like iron, stain resistant, very washable. Only thing is it's crushable so it's best if it's a level loop or a very dense weave. It also has a low melting point...DH managed to melt a spot on one rug with his drop light. Most of the carpeting in my house is olefin.

When I asked my architect if he knew what fiber this was, he thought it was silk...

I have an indoor/outdoor 2' x 8' runner at our front entrance. I think I bought this one at JCPenney. Can be easily cleaned outside on the deck or else when we have the area rugs cleaned they clean this one, too. This photo is my home screen on my phone. The first time the kitties were getting along. Black kitty is still hanging in there, but he is down to his final days.

I just ordered one on Overstock, it arrives next week. It's for the gazebo. It's a blue and gray Boho look pattern.

I have a very informal blue rug from Pottery Barn that is indoor /outdoor, it is made from recycled plastic strands. The original plan was to put it under table in main living area but decided it looked better on the porch and didn’t want a third rug in that area anyway. Idk if they still have it, purchased last August but has held up well in a screened porch.

I'm searching through all the photos on my FB page hoping to download some and upload here to show the color of the room and hopefully find a picture of the persian. Honestly, I'd like to get rid of it even though it's beautiful No big spots per se, but the whole thing needs cleaned.

The colors of the room are mostly jewel toned, which mostly comes from the sofa (it's gone when Covid is gone, DS has my "new" sofa) & the rug in front of the sofa. The colors I have can accept blue, and I realized I do have some pretty blue accessories.

Be back later, suffering from allergies so I'm off to lay down. :(
