I like your choice except paint the tudor slat thingys the same as the background then they won't show. Looks better without the shutters

I prefer the brown trim and would not paint any of the trim white. If you don't like the Tudor trim, just paint it all the same colour. Personally I like it and would leave the wood brown to match the other trim, but paint the stucco a less-yellow colour. Agree with removing the shutters.

I agree with everything ptreckel is saying. I find the darker trim to be much more handsome on your home. You can buy muntin kits to add the same muntins to the upper windows.

Yes, you're right about the windows on 2nd and 3rd floors not having the muntins -- the previous owners installed them and chose side-opening crank-style windows instead of double-hung. I'm personally not inclined to add muntins as I find they look quite artificial. So I'd like to find some way of enhancing the character without them.

Please don’t attempt to ‘add trim’ to the windows. Trim on brick houses is always narrow and sits behind the brick. Adding trim on top of the brick will look artificial and will lead to water intrusion. When you can, replace the three modern windows with double hungs to match the originals so the front facade is consistent.

Thanks for the heads up, @HALLETT & Co. Do you have any suggestions for alternatives to replacing the windows? They were replaced just before we moved in, so I don't think we'll be replacing them anytime soon.

Regarding color I don’t like your brick with white. I prefer a buff/ tan on the stucco and a dark brown trim color. Purple door.

Diamond panes are traditional with Tudor, but since you're not a fan of the Tudor look I'd just make them to mimic your lower windows, with the same number of panes.

Playing around with a few other variations and trying out muntins... "like" if you think I'm going in the right direction on any of them...

I like your last two mock-ups, sarracenia . Either one is perfect.

I would just take the bushes in front of the large window down in height. They should be below the bottom of the window.

I love your second version. Adding the 3rd color around the windows adds a lot of interest. The house looks very handsome.

Ok, back again after playing around with more ideas. I'm curious to know people's thoughts about the two-toned window trim idea, and about adding a hint of colour into the stucco.

I like Tudor half-timbering so I like contrast between it and the stucco. I have a Tudor and when I asked my decorator (who is from London) about repainting the cream-coloured stucco, she was a bit shocked. She pointed out to me that my stucco has ground minerals embedded in it and so it has a slight sheen/shimmer, and was not meant to be painted. I'd lived there for 10 years and never noticed.

I'd add just a bit more trim too if possible. I'd leave windows the original brown. I like this colour the best of the ones you showed but I'd go lighter.

@partim Thank you for your insights -- the extra trim is an interesting idea! The stucco has already been painted at our place (peach in the front, white in the back) so I'm ok with repainting it.

@partim Here's another shade of stucco for a bit more contrast and an extra few tudor boards. I feel like it's getting really close! Fingers crossed that the brick under the shutters actually looks ok.

I like it. Browns are very tricky though - I learned that with my Tudor. They have red/orange/pink/purple/green undertones and it's easy to be just a bit "off". Be sure you get a good-size sample board before committing.

I like the green stucco the best. Don't like the red toned one at all. The brown is OK. But if you are going to put mullions in the windows, please don't make the white. They should be a dark interesting color.

I like your last mock-up but I agree with keeping the windows darker. I like the reddish brown for the windows in your mock-up further up the page.

Ok, you've convinced me to go with dark sashes and muntins! Thank you for the feedback!

Some more variations (I'm kind of obsessed).

Bottom left is existing window frame colours with muntins added, and stucco painted (tudor boards kept the existing colour)

Bottom right is dark sashes, a taupe-y casing, and both stucco and tudor boards repainted.

(Top left existing, top right was an old version with lighter muntins/sash)

It appears you have some cast stone or concrete accents on your home- window sills and decorative bands on the columns. If these are unpainted leave them alone and paint the stucco to match. If they are already painted paint them the same color as the stucco and pick a color for all that looks like natural stone (I use a buff by Ralph Lauren called burlap).

So basically a modified version of the lower right option. Burlap or similar on the stucco, olive for all trim, burgundy for window sashes only.

We delayed painting and went back to the drawing board with more options, as my husband wasn't keen on the dark colours. Thoughts on any of my new renderings?
