I just bought royal crimson cherry tree in Southern California

I just purchased a royal crimson cherry tree from the local hardware store. I am completely inexperienced with growing trees. I want a beautiful and productive tree, I am looking for Advice on how and where to plant, I am in southern Cali. and if I should crop the top now and where to cut it. Right now it’s one straight shoot up, no branches about 8 foot tall.

Do a web search for "[your county] extension" and then search the site that comes up for information about growing orchard cherry trees.

You cherry is self-fruitful, which means you don't need another variety as a pollenizer.
