why is it so dry that the media is separating from the side of the pot ???

where did you get it a few weeks ago ... mail order... local.. wondering about how much stress it could be under??

I received it at a local nursery.

Is the black edge firm or soft? if it is firm it could be scar tissue from a mechanical wound that is healing. if it is soft it might be rot. u can cut below it if it spreads. but in case it IS soft id first rub some cinnamon on it (it dries out wounds and is antibacterial/fungal) before u choose to cut it

the small scars at the bottom are nothing to worry about plants get those from all kinds of things like, bumping into each other, damage from repotting, moving etc or just plain age.

the good thing is that the plant does not seem to be overwatered or anything. if it was real dangerous rot it would start from the bottom. it looks really healthy aside from the wound actually!

Phew thank you that’s good news! I will try the cinnamon trick and give it a few days and see what it looks like.. I touched it and it doesn’t seem mushy, slightly soft maybe?

One more question.. can I Cut the black spot out of the whole top of it?

I bought it with a slight white spot on it, absolutely no black. I’ve only had it for two weeks and haven’t dropped or done anyting to it 😆

@anskuhh s alright! you’ll be fine i think . The other three plants in that pot look really nice and healthy makes me want one too! are you new to cacti/succulents? Purists would say u need more gritty soil (50/50 organic/inorganic or even 40/60) but if u water sparingly or if u live in a hot climate your soil should be fine. Its just regular potting soil im assuming?

It doesn’t look like the kind of soil I normally would use for cactus but it’s my first succulent so not sure if it’s the right kind.. I figured it would be ok since it came from a reputable nursery. Yes the other 3 are good apart from one of them having this spot that I just noticed and got instantly worried.
