Small holes in leaves. It’s been getting plenty of water. Second year in this spot.

Are those actual holes in the leaf? Or are they light colored spots?

Has anything other than water been sprayed near or on the tree?

They are holes. Nothing has been sprayed high enough to get to leaves

If actual holes, then I'd look for sort of insect pest. But be advised it might be tiny....small pests make small holes :-)

I've grown an awful lot of Japanese maples in my day - current collection of about 2 dozen - but rarely is there any bother from insects. If the leaves are not dying off and dropping, I'm not sure I'd be overly concerned.

FWIW, sprays can drift quite easily. That's the whole point of social distancing with Covid 19!! All it takes is spraying in the proximity and a light breeze and those spray droplets can travel a good distance.

Did you ever find out what caused this on your japanese maple? Did it recover?
