Kitchen update ideas

Hi all- I would love your help! Our cabinets are in such great condition (this is an older pic from when we bought the house- for some reason I do not have a newer picture but just imagine repose gray on the wall and no wall art bc I still don’t know what to do there!) I would love to try to update our kitchen but keep the cabinets and have no idea where to start! I’m thinking a new light fixture for above island, replace solid surface counter tops if budget friendly and my bigger dilemma is whether to paint cabinets. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, if you zoom in you can see there is rope molding at the top- not sure if that matters. The trim for the room is oil based so naturally yellows with time. The trim is off white. I love white cabinets but am worried about trim with that. Also, want to be mindful of budget (this is not our forever home) and color of tile. As you can see, I think too much and cannot make decisions with this! Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Looks like Nice cabinetry to me. I would replace lighting above island with something more modern, replace bar stools, do fresh paint and updated counters and backsplash and call it a day. Google updated kitchens with wood cabinetry for ideas.

Wood cabinets with a light counter look really great, and you can do a white, taupe, or gray backsplash to help tie in the floors and so forth. Budget can be a factor, though -- a few thousand for counters and backsplash, total?

I agree with new light; new counters in a light, but not tan, gray or yellow, pattern or solid; Don't paint the cabinets - just clean them really well; and I would replace the pulls and knobs with larger, polished nickel pulls.

If you don't like the rope trim, the molding on top of the cabinets is usually not really hard to replace.

Paint the molding that will yellow with paint that will not - there is no need to make choices based on that!

I would just change the lighting, and use a solid white countertop with matching back splash. Do not add any gray so the kitchen will still work well with your tiles. Your cabinets are fine.
