exterior stairs MUST be remodeled! I need some affordable ideas!

My husband and I found our dream home. It is everything we were looking for and more. I didn’t want to buy a house that has the standard layout all the newer homes seem to have, and this one is exactly that!

The only thing I wish to change eventually are the exterior stairs leading up to the front door. I am thinking it will require some major landscaping, but that would be quite expensive. Does anyone have any ideas to make the stairs more appealing and easier to walk up?

I included some extra photos from the listing page so you can see beyond the ugly stairs!

Oh and I would love some pictures that show some solutions if you can find them 🙂

There's nothing wrong with the stairs. I think it's the exposure of the underbelly of the house that looks unfinished.

Landscaping around the house or even something like this is needed. Hello beach, hello Charleston!

It’s actually much bigger than the pictures show. It is 3,000 square feet, and had a lot of unique areas throughout the house that unfortunately can’t be seen well in pictures. There is even an upper deck off the master bathroom! But since I’m so excited, I’m just going to share more pictures 😁

Tozmo- thank you for the examples! You’re right, I think I could definitely get away with some simple landscaping to hide the exposed basement.

Can I ask what your looked up to find those pictures?

I really don't think there's any way to make them easier to get up other than doing a straight staircase to the front door. They remind me of a lot of houses in Galveston on the beach, they're all built on stilts. Some have outside elevators.

I used, "elevated beach house exterior" "Charleston exterior"

Here's another one that's nice. Think of the great gluts you'll have!

Nice house, I can see why you're excited! I don't have a picture but just a thought ... is there a way of expanding the landing? I can sort of picture walking up a half-flight to pause at a deck, maybe sitting for a bit and enjoying the view, before walking the rest of the way up. I like tozmo1's last picture with the widely spaced horizontal boards to "hide the underbelly".

It is called a "raised house". I googled Louisiana raised house and tons came up. It is to keep the main floor from flooding. It is used anywhere on any of the coasts from the East to the South. You just need more landscaping to screen the view of the bottom. Azaleas would be perfect.

    Beautiful house.

Screening the underside with some sort of lattice then a vegetative screen in front of that will transform the way the house sits on the property. It’s a large house so no project will be ‘inexpensive’.

Yes, usually lattice is put at the front edge of the porch to the ground with plants in front of that.
