Cream cabinets with white counters and back splash? New home purchase

We are planning to purchase a new construction home, so we can live in a neighborhood we would love to raise our kids in. It is already built completely, so no selections can be made. This would not be the colors for my perfect kitchen, but with the market where we live, this house for square footage is a steal and it puts us in the neighborhood where we want to live.

The counters and backsplash are white and the cabinets are cream? Any decorating advice to breakup the big contrast between these 2 colors or visually make them blend better?

I would have assumed the cabinets would have been white in this scenario? Maybe it is the new thing or the style house it is? I have no gift with decor, so it may just be my mind thinking it should all be white and that I should try to “fix” it. Thanks for any advice!

The same color cabinets are in the laundry room. I think the color contrast is better seen in this pic.

I would try to add some splashes of your favorite color with a mat\ throw rug, canisters, planters, fruit bowl etc. Maybe a oordinating Roman shade at the window. Show pics of the adjoining space and take colors from there. You have a lovely, neutral backdrop to enhance as you see fit.

When I see people wonder about this, I think of Obama’ s cream color suit and white shirt. Scandal! :)

I agree with SI mom. Layering the whites looks great. Pretty kitchen.

Just enjoy the fact that you have a nice new and clean kitchen! Maybe find some stools, area rug or a valance for the window with a white/cream pattern. I wouldn't have picked that cabinet color either, but it was probably the only "white" that was offered by the cabinet company the builder used. My only gripe with the kitchen is that it has very few drawers. I would enjoy the kitchen as is for a few years and then decide if you want to make any changes.

The issue is highlighted by using gray walls, but it can still look nice since all the colors are neutral. Add natural wood elements and a green plant to give it some life.

Hi Kay. You can make the mix of colors look more purposeful by changing your backsplash to be a mixture of whites and creams.

White on cream was very likely the intent and as everyone has commented below, it is on trend so don't worry about it not matching. It looks like you have a great blank canvas with which to work.

I'm unsure of your design style but I would try a long and colorful kilim runner along the sink wall and a similarly colorful and patterned rug under the dining table. Rattan or wood barstools would be a great place to add natural texture and warmth to an otherwise minimal cool palette. The adjacent walls not pictured in your photos are also opportunities to bring in additional color and texture through art, photography, potted plants, etc.

Congratulations on your new home !!

It looks beautiful! One way to add color is to attach things to the backsplash, which can be done without drilling holes! I have several art tiles hanging on mine.

First make sure all the bulbs in the lighting everywhere are LEDs in 4000K that will show you the true color of the cabinets . Cream and white can be a beautiful combo both elegant and restful google cream and white interiors there are great inspiration.

If, after you've accessorized and lived with it a while (and do experiment with 3000-4000K light bulbs as Patricia Colwell suggests), you still really don't like it, I would say repaint the walls to a less contrasting color - picking up the shade of the cabinets, so the cream doesn't stand out as much.

What color are your countertop appliances? Red? Black? Blue? Stainless? Those will pop against the white and it won't look as stark as you think it does. I think it looks lovely, as-is.

Thank you all so very much for the advice! I feel so much better about it now. These are all ideas I would have never thought of. The same gray walls run throughout the house. The wall across from the kitchen is white shiplap with a barn door. All countertop appliances are black or stainless steel.

    Thanks again!
