I like the red rug but the black one is a WOW!

In some pics your cabinets look almost white, and in others, a very soft tan. But the rug you have now truly looks GREAT in there!

I sure would never use a vintage rug in a kitchen and in fact I dislike runners in kitchens period. They get gross and need constant washing and IMO are tripping hazard. As for the taupe looking purple it probably has a bit of that undertone and the red is just enhancing it. I would need to see the whole kitchen and if you haven't done it make suare all your bulbs are LEDs in 4000K before choosing any thing else.

I would remove a rug from that location entirely. Right by the stove like that, you will get all kinds of drips on it. It is a very pretty rug and it is a shame to use it in a place where it will get matted and grungy. Your floors seem nice, why cover them.

How will you be cleaning this rug? Will you send it off to a specialty rug cleaner? How often?

To downplay a color tone, don't pair it with a high contrast color. Find a rug that has a color scheme that has taupe and similar colors. The high contrast calls attention to the rug, which you may like, but on the flip side, calls attention to the tones in the cabinets that you don't want highlighted. Downplay with similar tones on the color wheel, not across. Also, a more neutral rug will show less dirt, if that is a factor. I hate carpeting in the kitchen because I am a super messy cook but also the constant cleaning. I only have one by the sink to rest my feet.
