I moved into a new house about 6 months ago, and have pretty much every room where I like them, however the living room has been the hardest to pin down.

I use the living room frequently, so something relaxing and inviting is the direction I'd like to go - somewhere to unwind after a long day.

I'm hoping someone out there could help me with a little guidance figuring out where things should be placed, what colors to go with (painting the walls and/or buying new furniture is perfectly okay if it means I'm happy and comfortable in the space).

The house is an older one located in New England and would like to keep a bit of that character, though I do love minimal design so a blend of the two would be phenomenal.

This is a sketch of the current layout with pretty accurate size representations of the furniture.

Any advice, color palette ideas, or decorating help would be incredible. Thanks in advance!
