Have you discovered any new blogs, instagram decorators, etc...

during the pandemic?

I used to love Mary Engelbreit years ago, and then pretty much forgot about her. I am not sure what I saw that made me look for her again, but her Instagram -- homecompanion -- makes me smile every day. She shares lots of pictures of the interiors and exteriors of interesting houses. Not for everyone, I am sure, but the styles really appeal to me.

Another one I discovered is garrowkdesigns, also on Instagram. I like a lot of the photos he posts.

I follow very few blogs any more. I used to love them; now they all look the same to me. A Cup Of Jo is one I recently discovered. I still like Apartment Living sometimes, and The Kitchn.

And for a laugh, back to Instagram, I love thelesliejordan.

I rediscovered Joan’s “For The Love of a House” on IG. Her house makes me swoon:

    https://www.instagram.com/fortheloveofahouse/

I recently discovered “Hill House Vintage” ... again, swoon-worthy. And Paula seems so fun, her pictures make me smile:

    https://www.instagram.com/hillhousevintage/

I follow AD on Instagram, but am getting a bit weary of how repetitive their featured homes are — everything sleek, modern, shiny, and usually MCM (and I do like that style). It’s better for me to look through once in a while, rather than daily. I’m really craving traditional styles right now.

I don’t follow many accounts, my IG is very quiet and peaceful. :)

Sue I posted not too long ago on my thoughts on blogs. i used to follow several, now not much at all. One that I really love her house, and her style, I just got so tired of every other post being what she bought. If it wasn't what she bought, it was what she wanted or what she changed. I quit following. I still look at her instagram occasionally, because I do like her home.

Don't laugh but I like some dog instagram accounts! The cute pups make me smile. I also follow a few builders in TN, one doing old looking new houses in Franklin, TN (near Nashville, beautiful farm area!).

Jinx, I have followed For the Love of a House for YEARS. I love her home, I love her style! I have a home full of antiques myself, so I think that is what first drew me in. She is the direct opposite of the blogger i mentioned above, Joan is not forever changing things in her home! When she finds items she loves, they stay! She does not change our her bedrooms for every. single. season. Another thing I love is her gardening; and of course her sweet pups!

I started following several new instagram accounts. One (m.o.endres) led to a new art project - decoupaged matchbook covers:

The other (gucciwestman) led to some $$$ make-up purchases which I love.

    Proceed with caution :)

I love juniperfoxx on instagram. A whole menagerie of animal rescues, the fox come from fur farms. Never thought I could find an opossum cute but mushroom has my heart. Sara Cooper for a laugh, new designers I follow are Park & Oak and Kate Lester. I use Instagram as a form of visual entertainment and buzz through at night after dinner. I follow some local businesses, several rug dealers, garden sites and some food related (still love Alton Brown) but I fast forward through stories most of the time - just not interested in watching someone else go through their day, promote their latest product partnership or being pushed to follow all their friends so they too can have more product partnerships. I do like watching someone do a hands on project and follow a couple of people who are masters at use what you have, low budget/high style and do it yourself don't hire it out. They inspire me.

edited to add - @rubyclaire I follow m.o.endres, too - gorgeous stuff! Love the matchbook covers!

    Jinx,

Joan has a blog, which is where I first found her. I'm not sure if she is still updating it, if she is, it is not very often. But you would probably LOVE to go through old posts. She does a tour of each room.

The other instagram account you mentioned, I saw her mentioned several times the last few weeks when some instagramers were promoting black accounts. Thanks to you, I've added another to my long list of instagram accounts. LOL!!

The one I follow on IG that has the deepest rabbit hole for me is #fortheloveofoldhouses. Seems there are no shortage of swoon worthy old homes out there. It’s fun to dream.....

Thanks, Tina! I read Joan’s blog years ago, but good idea to go back and catch up. :)

Tannatonk, yes! I love that one, too. And “cheap old houses”. It’s fun to dream of how I’d renovate these old beauties:

Jinx and TIna, I too adore Fortheloveofahouse! I just wonder with so many things in that house and four or three dogs... how do they keep it clean??

Jinx, cheap old houses is amazing! Thanks for sharing that!

Recently, all talk of home decoration, etc tire me, because it makes me want to buy, move and change, etc. It makes me dissatisfied with my house and, at least for me, it creates a sense of never-ending discontent and desire that’s draining after a while. I fully recognize that this is my personal mental state and don’t mean to suggest others are driven by a similar unhealthy mental state.

It also made me realize that I’m not terribly good at creating the kind of styles and looks I like and appreciate and I’m ok with that. That realization was a relief. Now this is the only home decoration type of place I visit and even then, it’s more for the discussions. I love looking at the spaces so many on this forum have created and admire the creativity, energy and talent that goes into it. But I have learned to do it without looking at the half-a@#ed job that’s my space with dismay! LOL.

My favorite is still homeiswheretheboatis.net Her recipes always work, she has a talent for mixing patterns and arranging flowers and gives instructions on how to replicate what she has done AND she has two adorable dogs.

I've recently started following Alexandra Gater https://l.instagram.com/?u=https%3A%2F%2Flinktr.ee%2Fagater&e=ATPgZYdwmJpWuAm5eyjU7VCm0gCGCfg_lGuhLZXnbqMNmoV0B5dgq3gm7eMhFj3bnJSYceDN2fp6I1yH&s=1 She is a young Canadian lifestyle blogger. Her designs are perfect for the 20-something renter which is the opposite of who I am, but I like her energy and find it kind of fun to think about what it would have been like to have had the resources that young people have today for design.

I’m also following Joan (FTLOAH) on IG but didn’t realize it! I also follow Hill House Vintage.

I love those decoupage boxes! I do some collaging and have done gift boxes but the matchboxes are adorable and could be great little gifts too, esp along with a candle.

ETA, as I’m looking at my Instagram, I also follow and enjoy https://instagram.com/facts_not_opinions_house?igshid=115wcj21zcawl

Here is an instagram page of an acquaintance. She once owned a shop in my town and then she and her family up and moved to France. She lives in a 380 year old farm house! https://www.instagram.com/cat_in_france/

I don't follow a lot of decorating accounts but one I like is Sheila Bridges, who did the dog room on the decorator house we visited last year in NYC. Bpath was with me during that time. I really enjoyed meeting Sheila Bridges and she came across as really fun. She is also well known for her Harlem Toile pattern. She does beautiful work.

I remember Sheila Bridges, she was delightful. Not being a decor maven I didn't realize how much of a "somebody" she is. Never occurred to me to follow her, I'm so lame.

Because of fortheloveofahouse, I stumbled upon this:

    https://www.instagram.com/wyseguide/?hl=en

He has the best gardening tutorials! For his age (he seems young to me), he's incredibly knowledgable about cooking, gardening, food preservation and all things "home."

I also follow m.o. endres and made my own decoupage match boxes. They turned out great! Have followed For the Love of a House for years, too. Didn't she used to post here years ago?

I follow Nestingwithgrace on Instagram. She is delightful! You would have to look back through her pages to see what all she has done with their small 1,300 sq feet Connecticut home.

I recently started following Ourplaceoncapecod (Yarmouth Port) and Thisoldcapehouse (Eastham), both are wonderful examples of gardening and decorating rather modest homes of former sea captains. Another one I discovered is Oldsilvershed, a spectacular ocean front home in Falmouth on the Cape.

    Sueb20 thanked Bonnie

I’ve been adding ALL of these to my IG. I’m going to stay in tomorrow and go through all the photos on all of them!

That last one, oldsilvershed, reminds me of mtn’s Maine house at first glance (exterior with big porch).

Bonnie, do you live in Cape Cod?

I've added several to follow on IG. Thanks for the recommendations. I added @stoneridgecottage based on another Houzz thread. She was a GW member (Willow Decor, blogger), lovely Cape Ann cottage.

Sue, agree oldsilvershed and Mtn have similar porches.

Allison, we live in the Boston area but have a second home on Cape Cod. I remember Willow and her move to Anniquam (Cape Ann is often referred to as “the other Cape”).

oldsilversheds gorgeous blue hydrangeas!! And I so want to try the valances she has in her sleeping porch room! She made them.

I've added a string of new accounts on IG. I'll never get anything done. LOL

    Some I follow are:

cherry_hill_cottage She had a blog that I really enjoyed!

    nest_on_the_ridge

They are transforming a 1919 Craftsman. Some of it's rather eccentric, but always interesting!

@Bonnie my cousin and her husband live in Cape Cod and own a flower garden nursery in East Falmouth.

Bonnie I too Follow the same Cape Cod blogs . Allison being from CC I have been to a couple of nurseries in E.Falmouth just recently which are lovely to shop there. #blue lobster flower farm is another local one I enjoy.

Into the rabbit hole of IG accounts that link to others, which link to others...found one more I like. I was enamored with the colors in this room and the poster/bar situation. The old wreck:

Cran, my cousin's is Soares. Cape Cod is a lovely area. I know you enjoy living there.

I love Soares garden center ! It’s lovely not like the bigger commercial ones. A bit of a drive for me but I did get there this year.

Does Room Rater count? they crack me up. (warning: strong liberal bias)

Cran, sweet! I love seeing her photos on FB and have listened to her online. I've never been to the nursery, but it looks nice. Terry's father and my mother were siblings.

I have also enjoyed Old Silver Shed for a while now. So envious of her porch, hydrangeas, and pizza oven!

I haven’t found anything new lately, but do like these on Instagram: edbdesigns (also has a blog), mandyenohome, jogalbraithathome, mollyinmaine, and copycatchic.

Ha ha - Room Rater! Following...

Sue, I was enamored with that color I used it in my old living room. This phto does not really reflect the color as well. In the old second bedroom I used a color almost the same. Sometimes I really miss my old house!

Akt, I remember that room and how hard you worked to get it just right.,😢

I know Sue! Oh well. At least I left the wrong man behind with it. No point in living in a great house when you are depressed and do not like the person with whom you are living. Suddenly nothing looks very pretty.

BTW, Those colors are distorted... at least in the living room.

@Kira Roberts I would look at all the videos available on YouTube from Sarah Richardson. There are also older TV shows you might find online.
