White springs granite satin or blue galaxy polished

last modified: 4 years ago

I just picked out And put on hold white springs satin Granite Slab to replace my granite tile that is stained. I am having second thoughts regarding bad reviews I have read about satin or honed finish staining. Both beautiful stones, which one would you pick polished or satin? Not sure if satin and honed are the same thing or satin is more stain resistance. Get different answers. First picture is white springs satin and second is blue galaxy polished. Thank you

I believe satin and honed finishes are the same. I googled and could not find anything online that differentiated them, but you should ask that stoneyard, since they are the ones who provided that title of satin.

In dark granites I prefer a honed finish because otherwise dark granites are too reflective of overhead lights. However in a light granite like the 2 you’ve pictured I prefer a polished finish. I think it looks really good, and similar to what Patricia Colwell said, is more impervious to spotting, smudging, and streaks than a honed finish.

Between those two granites, I am not familiar with Blue Galaxy. I am quite familiar with White Springs. White Springs is an excellent easy-care stone. Having said that, I have never seen White Springs with red bits like in that picture. Or is that just the pic or just my screen? If there are red streaks in that slab, it gives me pause that it might be a different stone than White Springs. The granites in the Kashmir White family always have red bits in them. Kashmir White granite is notorious for staining and absorption. Can you get pieces of both those granites so you can test for staining?

Thank you for responding! This is going on kitchen counters. Since my post I have decided on polished but maybe in the white springs. Just waiting to see if they get a really light shipment in first. My 2nd runner ups will be white ice or blue galaxy. Yes Shannon the red is from a live slab picture at the yard and says white springs, the polished white springs doesn’t show the red streaks like the satin. Blue galaxy is really pretty. I do t know if it is new I have googled it since I saw it and I can’t find it anywhere except at Arizona tile where I saw it.

The Blue Galaxy looks a lot like Blue Nile. Very pretty granite. Different yards sometimes use different names. White Ice is also nice, be aware it has a cream background in most of the slabs.

Does White ice have yellow creamy? I’m ok with beige creamy but not yellow. I will have to look up blue Nile just to see. Thanks

Depending on the slab, White Ice runs more yellow creamy. The Blue Nile runs more beige/grey, more ivory (cooler than creamy). All depends on slabs.

My granite journey was long. I visited slab yards for months. I didn't want to settle for something that was just okay. I wanted it to be exactly what I wanted. My short list:

Blue Flowers: I found a slab that was a bit lighter than other Blue Flowers and really liked it. Placed a hold but found when you ran your hand over it, it had a lot of fissures and "snags" so I didn't get it.

White Ice: My yards had several slab lots that all were varied from each other. Really loved it but it really does have a cream/ivory background and our cabinets are pure white so I didn't think they would go together.

Blue Nile: The yards never had this, but one yard must have just gotten it in. Was hiding behind other slabs. It is exactly what I wanted - sort of a lighter Blue Flowers with a cool light taupe background, not creamy background, that will go with pure white cabinets. So glad I waited. I noticed when I visited the yard later they had gotten other slab lots of Blue Nile in that were darker than mine. Glad I got mine, because all my lot was gone by then.

I appreciate the details about white whisper, but my work with my light wood cabinets but problems be painting them in future. My first choice will be white springs but only if they get a light batch in not dark. I want whitest background whether it’s creamy or beige. Blue Nile must be similar to blue galaxy and that is still a contender.
