Some blooms in Michigan

I haven't fallen off of the face of the earth! I don't know where my time goes, but I feel like I'm always busy and never get anything done. I haven't spent any time on the forum recently. I have not been taking any pictures of my seedlings this year and have been avoiding going into the daylily foliage as much as possible (my seedling area is the worst, since everything is jam-packed), as I am having issues again this summer with horrible blistering, painful bug bites. At least this year none of them have gotten infected... yet. Knock on wood!

Anyway, I thought I'd pop on to post a few pictures. For now, I'll post some newer acquisitions, ones I got last year or this spring. These pictures were taken in the last couple of weeks.

Yoga Man

Judge Judy FFOE - just started blooming here on July 15th

Sparkling Giants FFOE - I love this one! Two pics, first in the morning, second in the evening after a hot sunny day

The Food Channel

Love In A Vacuum FFOE - wow. First pic is in the morning, second pic is after a hot sunny day

Sultry Girls

Through A Glass Darkly - I might have posted a pic of this one last summer, I got it last spring

Heavenly Final Destiny FFOE

Self Anointed FFOE

Deep Waters FFO (probably posted a pic of it last summer, new last spring)

Better not push my luck, I will try to add more in the comments shortly...

Here are some pics of Warm In Winter. I guess heat and lack of rain have taken their toll - Sharing these anyway, as I think Debra wants to see. I'm guessing it will shape up, but not this year - only two buds left now.

I'll try to catch up on looking at some posts this weekend and see some of what I've missed. Thanks for looking!

You have some interesting new daylilies, had to go back and check them a few times. A few caught my attention. Royal Greens made me look again, nice subtle coloring and a nice clean edge. Love in a Vacuum, what a scrumptious color. Sultry a Girl with a nice green throat and love the form. I must be in a purplish mood today.

Lots of interesting things. If anyone can get increase on the Pierces, you can, with your husband's watering system. Deep Waters has been good this year. And Sultry Girls, which had a lot of splotching last year, has given a rich and generally clean display.

Wow all your newbies are Gorgeous and so my taste (except for the bonus), and Sparkling Giants and Triple Green especially! Very striking.

Sorry about the bug bites :(

I thought Love in a Vacuum was a red, but it looks purple on my screen. Are you the person who outbid me for it on the Lily Auction? Pink Panther Paws looks purple too. Maybe they bloom purple for you because it's your favorite color. LOL Thanks for posting your pics of Warm in Winter. That first one looks really pretty. It looks like yours had a lot more buds than mine this first year. Sparkling Giants looks good. I got it this Spring, but it never put us scapes for me. Absolute Ripper is looking good and toothy in your garden. You get more of a pronounced watermark on it than I do. I think The Royal Greens may be my favorite one - love the white edge!

I have been wondering where you were!!! And here you are with lots of new and fun plants. I do like The Goldilocks Effects! Triple Greens looks very interesting and looks like it would be an attention getter. Love in a Vacuum has a wonderful color. You have so many nice new ones here. Goodness on the bug bites! That sounds very painful!

Love In A Vacuum is a beauty, as is Deep Waters. I really like Sparkling Giants. I really thought Triple Greens was going to be my pick, but then I saw Pink Panther Paws and that did it. What a lovely post.

So many new lovelies. I really like Sparkling Giants and The Food Channel. Absolute Ripper looks great too. Someone posted Pink Panther Paws, which reminds me of Lotus Position. Wonder if I would like this one better.

I was going to comment on individual ones but the beauties just kept coming...Wow so much purple! Going back and looking several times, Love in a Vacuum, Sultry Girls and Deep Waters top the list. Sea Scape is a nice lavender.

As to the bites, have you used products like Off to keep them off of you? Products with DEET. I just looked it up and there is clothing treated with permethrin that keep bugs off, like biting chiggers. Do you know what bugs it is? If it is chiggers, they are so small you can barely see them and they live everywhere.https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/prevent-treat-chigger-bites#1. With deet and permethrin clothes for daylily times, you might be ok to go out. Also, I think you can buy Dragon and Damsel Flies which eat bugs like crazy. We have hundreds of damsel flies here and have for several years now. They just showed up one year, and this has really cut down on the bugs and bug bites.

Thanks everyone for looking and taking the time to comment! It's great to hear from you all. And I know it's fun to see new blooms. One thing that I will mention about The Royal Greens is that the first several blooms were very splotchy... but it whipped itself into shape :) A lot of my blooms have been splotchier than usual this season - like Glory To His Name was splotchy all the time - today is the first time I noticed non splotchy blooms, and it's about done for the season.

Debra, Love In A Vacuum is definitely red, not purple - sorry if the color wasn't captured accurately. I'll include another pic below. I got LIAV from Hanson, last summer, so it wasn't me that outbid you :) Pink Panther Paws has a mauve-ish color on the ends of it on some mornings (depending on rainfall probably), but fades to light pink.

Nancy, I believe Lotus Position is one of the parents of Pink Panther Paws.

Sea Scape is one I bought to try something different from Davi, and I don't really care for it - ha!

Brad, thanks for the info and your thoughts on the bites! My thinking last year after suffering with the bites for a while was that they were/are probably chiggers - I suddenly remembered about doing some volunteer work a few years ago at a state park nearby and they made sure that we were clothed appropriately and were sprayed with Deet. I hate going to the dr, but did last year when one of them got really infected... I think I had to go three or four times. The PA agreed with me that they might be chiggers, but she had never seen such blistering, etc. They were really bad, and I had dozens of them at a time - very itchy and painful and in bad places for blisters to be. I started wearing pants, and tucked them into socks, and sprayed myself down, but it didn't seem to really help. I know one of the sprays I tried last year had Picaridin (sp?). I need to try the sprays again. I probably have about 15-20 bites right now in various stages of blistering, scabs, etc. The other day I resorted to popping one of the blisters with a sterile needle, as it hurt so bad - it was going to keep growing until it burst anyway I think. Deet makes me a little nervous from what I remember back in my camping/backpacking days, but maybe I will get some from Amazon and try that as a last resort. We do have a lot of dragonflies (not sure about damsel or how to tell the difference) here. I'll look into permethrin clothes. Thank you!

Anyway, if anyone has read this far, here's a couple of daylily pictures for your trouble :)

Another pic of Love In a Vacuum

Forgot this one - Westbourne Blackberry Cobbler - bought last year on a whim, added to an order

I bought this one last week, had admired it last year when I saw it in person, Lemon Strawberry Twist

And here's Davi's Dilemma, not sure if I posted it last year, I think I got it fall of 2018. I love it, even though it's pink :) I made a video of it last year, but never shared the couple of videos I made

    Thanks for looking AGAIN!

More great pics, Laura. Davi's Dilemma is really pretty too.

If you do an internet search for damsel flies and then dragon flies you will see the difference. Dragon Flies land and their 4 wings are wide open. Damsel flies have wings folded along the body. Damsel flies are voracious, eating amazing amounts of bugs in the water before they can fly, then amazing amounts in the air.

I know what you are talking about when you mentioned DEET. Consumer Reports used to caution against it. Now, however, after many many years and no issues, they wholeheartedly endorse it. And they are generally over cautious if anything.

Thanks for the second picture of Love in a Vacuum, but it still looks purplish on my screen. I love Davi's Dilemma, but it looks lavender rather than pink on my laptop. I looked at your pics on the Ipad, and they do look the right colors there. That's funny because the Ipad always makes my purples look red.
