The one time I used spray baste on my Pfaff, it was a mess. I gave it to a friend and just pin now.

I love to spray baste, but it causes trouble with free motion on my Bernina. My conclusion is the spray gums up the needle, preventing it from moving as quickly or as deeply as it needs to. With normal sewing it's not an issue, but it is with free motion.

Haven’t had any problem with 505, so I guess i’ll try it next time. This was a nightmare.

Use the absolute minimum amount.

I only use spray adhesive when I embroider and as little as will secure adequately. I do not spray baste my quilts, I pin the backing down onto my not-so-new berber carpet, then roll and smooth my batting, followed by the quilt top. I then use a large needle and a soup spoon to hand baste 6-8 inches apart in a grid pattern(spoon helps to bring the tip up so you can pull the needle easier). You have to lift the needle a bit before pushing it back up through the sandwich to avoid catching the run, but the water soluble basting works fantastic for me. You can quilt right over it without stopping and just soak your quilt in the washer to dissolve it when you are done. I have only had a pucker on the back twice in over 75 quilts! I use Superior Vanish, but I'm sure any soluble thread would work.
