vent hood insert and cabinet size/location for Thermador 36 range top

The appliance salesperson recommends Zephyr Monsoon DCBL 36-in vent insert for Thermador 36-in professional range top. The kitchen designer has the vent hood insert in a 39 in wide range hood cabinet 36-in above rangetop. Will this work?

Does your "designer" have the specs for the hood recommended? He/she certainly should........and if not? Make certain he/she GETS the specs for the insert.

We've no idea the design of the hood, other than it's 39 inches

I agree with live_wire - and proportionally it works too.

Thank you all. The designer does have the spec for the Zephyr vent insert and said they have consulted with the cabinet manufacturer and the vent hood width, which is 34 3/8”, works with a 39 inch wide range hood cabinet. The vent hood max CFM is 715, is this enough for the range top? Do I need to find an insert that has more CFM? What brand Would you recommend that has one other than Thermador?

Vents hood is a good brand and yes, would recommend higher CFM

Definately need more CFM for a gas range I often do hoods the same size as the range but I up the CFM for sure. It also helps to know where the venting is as that also affects the CFM needs also IMO 436” above the range is quite rfar away. I love vent-a-hood so that would be my choice but I also do not like insert hoods IMO the cabinet naterial around them get yucky really fast and if te cabinets are white they often discolor too and even more so if there is not enough CFM to get the grease and steam out .

Wolf has a handy ventilation guide on their website for their ranges. you can look at that to see how much cfm you need ballpark. ventilation seems to be pretty complicated though... there's what the hood is rated for vs. what the ductwork can actually handle. best to get an hvac guy to weigh in on it.

The cabinet surround should be 42” wide for your 36” rangetop. The insert should be the widest that can fit into the 42” cabinet surround. It sounds like a 42” wide surround is not being considered. Is that because you don’t have enough upper space for the additional 6”? IMHO, I’d get a metal hood for your Thermador rangetop. It’ll be less expensive, less complicated because it’s all-in-one rather than having to buy separate components, it can visually break up a “Great Wall of Cabinets”, and it’s easier to wipe down.

The distance from the rangetop to the bottom of the hood should be between 30-36”. So the 36” height you mentioned is fine.

Here are 2 things to ask your designer: (1) what is the depth of the hood surround front-to-back? It needs to be 24” deep. They are frequently designed too shallow, so that the front burners of the rangetop aren’t covered, and you’ve spent all that money not to have your front burners covered; (2) what is the size of the duct that goes from the hood to the outside? It needs to be 8“ or 10” diameter or you will have a more noisy exhaust.

IMO th size of the ducting is part of the hood and I have no idea how to change that to control the noise hood are noisy fands are noisy but good venting is ahuge issue to get right,

If noise is a concern, get a remote blower and duct silencer, too.

Gelsomina Cappuccio - in answer to your question “IMO” is an acronym for “in my opinion”. The “436“” is a typo and should be “36”. Patricia Colwell is a frequent commenter on this forum. She uses a writing style that is somewhat an artifice in which it has no punctuation, poor spelling, and typos. I say it’s an artifice because her earlier posts from a few years ago were articulate and had punctuation, and she says she is a professional caterer and interior designer. Those careers require better writing skills than a tween on Insta.

I ended up talking to my kitchen designer about my concern. Based on the type of cooking I do and that I have an open concept design where noise is my biggest concern, I am going to look at matching the Thermador range top with a Thermador vent insert with a 1000 CFM inline blower. I am going to stick with the 39 inch wide range hood cabinet that is 36 inches above the range top so that I can get the most width in my upper cabinets on either side. Thank you all for your inputs.

Gelsomina, how is the vent hood working for you. We are looking at Thermador 36 inch rangetop with a vent hood (rather than doing woodwork, we chose to keep it exposed in steel for easy cleaning). Would love to know/see how yours turned out.
