If you pay an electrician to do it, it will be "expensive." I replaced a chandelier in my dining room with four canned lights on dimmers and it was around $500 as I recall and that was several years ago.

Maybe better bulbs in the existing lighting will give you more light.

There is a reason they have track lighting, might need to inspect the depth, lots of electricians will give package deals to install say 6 can light, tho the reason it's not giving enough light is because there are only 2 fixtures, and the bulbs themselves might need changed.

So this is the "garden level" or some would say the basement level. I wonder if there is no crawl space or attic, or, if the headspace is so slight that it couldn't be done? Well, everyone's comments are so helpful. This gives me a direction and a mindset to set aside some $ to see if I can get some normal lights in there! Thank you!
