How would you decorate and paint this living/dining room?

Looking for recommendations on how to decorate this living room/dining room. What colour would you recommend to paint the room as well to make it look modern? Thanks!

If you are keeping your furniture, I would also keep the wall color, which works well with your floors and the blue sofa. I would add a large rug to the living area, in a pattern that incorporates a small amount fo the blue color. The biggest way to update your space is with new artwork. You need larger pieces, or you could try grouping them together. You want art to be hung at eye level when standing. You could try using the largest blue piece on the back wall and grouping all the rest over the sofa. Or keeping the blue one over the sofa and grouping everything else on the back wall with the mirror. Will you have a tv on the console? You could paint just that wall a deep color if so.

Hi, thank you! The furniture in the picture is from the original home owners, we will be bringing in new furniture - white leather sofa. There will be a tv stand and a tv on it as well, I love that idea of doing an accent wall behind the tv, it’ll make it pop. Would you go with a light grey for the rest of the walls if you went with something darker for the wall behind the tv?

You'll have to try some samples after you move in your furniture to see about colors. You have the gray tiles in the kitchen, so you may be able to go in that direction for the walls, but the dark brown floors may look better with a warmer shade of white. Start by looking at neutral whites or very light greige colors, and see how they look with your furniture. Keep the main color light since you only have light from one direction. You could also use a white tinted with a bit of green, blue, or pink, depending on the colors you want to use in the room. You have lots of options.

Paint is the last item to be chosen in a decorating project. Fabrics and textiles are "set in stone" but paint can be custom blended to work with them. First step here would be to revamp the lighting and use 4000K LEDs so you get true daylight color. Then bring in your furniture and see how it looks in the right lighting. Now you begin to look for wall colors that enhance your fabrics and textiles.

You do have a lot of options. I agree that the wood floors may be complemented better with a warm white on walls. And white walls could also offer you a more modern look than grey walls - since the grey trend is essentially over.

If you wanted to, you could design around current wall color.

Your home should reflect your personality, not the shade of the day.

What are your favorite colors, what colors will bring you joy when you walk into the room?

You can choose to do color just in the art and accessories, or on the walls, but the neutrals that work well with golds and greens are never going to be the same as the neutrals that work with purple grays and smokey teals or fuchsia and lime.
