Remodeling Design Dilemma

Replacing 60x80 double door with a single door/sidelight

We're replacing our old 60x80 double entry door with a single door and sidelight and are torn between a 42" door with a 14 " sidelight or a 36" door with a 18" sidelight. Our contractor says the 42" door would look great, but we're worried it's too wide. Does anyone have any advice?

IMO 36” is too narrow for a decent entry door with sidelight. Actually I much prefer a double door.

You can never go too wide on a front door entry.

dalmcc our door is 36", and it looks perfectly fine in our entryway - which is not particularly wide but very high. as far as "feeling" big enough, it's great. we love it.

but yours will depend on how wide is your entry wall is can we see pics?
