Have you priced re-upholstering? It is very expensive. It's been a long time since I've heard that the blue comes out of jeans. Sunbrella fabrics may be a good choice for you.

Blue still transfers onto fabric. If the furniture is outdated, why would you spend the $$$ to reupholster? You can't purchase fabric and pay for the labor and have it be less then what you can purchase replacements from Rooms to Go or American Signature Furniture.

Fabrics darker than blue jeans are less likely to show blue dye transfer. Lots of people use the simple furniture throws made for pets and kids in family rooms. Google "sofa pet throw".

Thank you. Yes these sofas are quite comfortable. Have had little use since they were in a living room that was not used often. Combining room to make a larger family room. I have two chairs that I am also keeping. If i choose to reupholster them what colour fabric would you go with that will complement the chairs

You know what? If you use those chairs and sofas and then add all other updated items, I think they could work.

I think you are going to be quite surprised at the cost of reupholstering. Have you priced that? I would do that before moving forward.

What you might consider is asking for the skirts to be removed only.

You can always change the fabric later or buy new sofas if these don't work out.

IMO there is rarely a time when reupholstery is worth the money I only choose it for clients when they own real antiques and if you are down sizing those pieces are too big and bulky get a sofa and then see if you can use 2 chairs but no loveseat.

Here is how to do this in the right order.

Measure the family room

Plan for what size furniture should go in there.

Find inspiration photos of what you;d like the room to look like.

Set a budget.

Decide if reupholstering will fit both your budget and style and floor plan. If not, buy.

A sofa and two armchairs are the answer, whether or not you keep the larger sofa. Go sit on some new pieces, get some quotes on reupholstering and see what your budget can handle.
