Unless you live in a super cold climate, I wouldn't add a rug at all. I would add artwork above the bed instead of a mirror, which would only reflect the TV on the other side. Put two small plants on each side table, and save the corner of the room for a chair. If you really want a rug, I would look at adding one with a natural texture, or a rug with a light taupe/cream background and just very small amounts of the navy blue. You have enough gray in two tones between the wall and the bed. Do you know what you want for bedding? Light or dark? That decision may also affect your rug choice.

Thanks for the insight. Do you have a suggestion on the plants/pots? I've never actually bought plants for indoors before, this is honestly my first time ever trying to decorate a space (when we were bouncing apartment to apartment for work, it seemed silly).

We are going to put artwork above the bed, something abstract (some faint pinks, blues, grays, maybe a little orange, etc.). The mirror will be in the space to the side not shown, with some sort of chair or bench next to it.

We thought a rug would make it feel a bit more like home. That Trellis rug definitely looks nice and has peaked my interest. I liked the idea of a touch of navy, but wasn't sure if it would pull too much from the wall. I also wasn't sure if creams/taupes would seem out of place, that's why I thought just going with gray.

For bedding we are going to to do white and then some sort of colored pillows, but not sure what.

I think creams can absolutely work... very neutral. white bedding with a pop of color in an accent pillow, how about a leopard print?

Maybe some gray and blue pillows with some pink? I'm curious if others agree about keeping room without a rug. I'm on the fence personally. I definitely would do the plants though and some art.

You can always get the bedding, art and accessories, and then decide on the rug.

We were thinking to do a large round mirror and some sort of chair on the side closest to the door, but trying to piece together a matching rug, chair, plants and pillows is proving much harder than we thought.

i feel like you have such a great start and just need to bring in some more personality with accessories. so some questions that may be able to help...what mood do you want for the room? I would say that could be a good start, or do you have a specific piece that you want to bring in that we could use as a jumping off point or maybe its that you want it to be a neutral room without alot of color or maybe moody. the room can go in so many directions so getting a starting point is key..mood, sentimental piece, etc. to me based on your current furnishings you like modern, with a mid century vibe. do you have any inspiration pictures that you love...just trying to get your design juices flowing... a few inspiration pics that have a modern mcm feeling

do you have a chair picked out? couldnt tell if you have one and are just trying to compliment it or if you are looking for one... heres some ideas just in case you are looking. for one... could go light to contrast with the darker walls or go moody with darker colors

We definitely like modern with some mid century mixed in, but we want to add some warm and cozy elements as well, so it feels more like a home. Thus far, it seems hard to strike that balance, but we want to get as close as possible at least.
