Hate my 2nd Floor Addition Siding

I could really use some help and suggestions for the exterior of my home. We do lean more towards the contemporary look and have done some upgrades in regards to the front door, replacing the entry way stucco with stone, enlarging the front portico and updating the landscaping. Have been trying to decide what color to stain/paint the portico but keep getting stuck on the fact that we hate the color of the 2nd floor siding.

The 2nd floor is around 1,500 sqft so contemplating painting the existing siding or replacing it with a color we like. Not really sure what color would look good with the red brick; do like grays but not sure if it would match well. If replacing is better, what style of siding (size, lap, texture)?

With coronavirus budget is a little tight; don’t want to break the bank but also don’t want to go to cheap that the quality suffers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Is the siding viny?

What was your overall vision when you did the door, stone and portico ro eventually make them cohesive with the rest of the house?

IMO the potico is not in the least modern a flatter roof would be better and as for the siding this is one of my favorite combos with brick but before even doing that much wider trim on the windows would be nice. Much more modern outdoor lighting and a garage door to match the front door. BTW I do not like true grays with brick A new garage door to match the front door , the stacked stone was a poor choice and the landscaping needs major work. Do you have a drawing of the plan for the portico?

I think the portico throws off the entire front of your house. A slanted roof one that goes across the front all the way to the driveway, would look much nicer, and would be a great place for a sitting area too. It would also split that addition from the brick, so the house would look more cohesive.

I'm not so sure changing the shape of the portico would be in the OPs budget? but I do agree that a different shape would be better, something more mid century. but what is there really isn't bad at all.

The grey mockup Celerygirl did is my favorite. It looks really great! would suggest the same siding and same grey for the front of portico, and painting the trim white.

normally I'd suggest cedar siding for the portico, but you have too many different elements here, I think.

here are some other split level color ideas.

that portico reminds me of something on a colonial.

I'd prob paint your brick and do something along these colors

or, if you want to keep the red brick, how about Urbane bronze?

I like the idea of this kind of garage door, and cedar plank siding. (but a diff portico shape)

How about a brown like the roof?

Thanks everyone for the replies and a big thanks for the renderings. I will try answering all your questions. I am ex-military and this is my first real house and remodeling in stages starting with the inside and as things pop up.

The siding is vinyl. I was remodeling the inside and needed a front door to match; the exterior color is a cheap temp paint as I was testing out if I liked the color.

The portico was a last minute necessity at the old one started to fall down. This was a DIY (no plans) that a friend help me put up over a weekend I did consider a flat roof but I couldn’t find siding to match where the old pitch was. It was a rush decision and figured it would match the pitched roofs on the rest of the house; It is what it is now. The stone was to cover up holes in the stucco. I have not painted/stained the portico yet until I figure out the full color scheme.

There is updated lighting, pictures attached. A new garage door to match color and style is in the pipeline, once I find the right style.

Ouch on the landscaping! I had pulled all the evergreens from around the house except from the corner that covers up the gas meter. Planted a bunch of plants and just waiting for them to mature.

Its a modest house and trying to improve it within my means. I do appreciate the feedback.

I like the sage because it looks good with both the brown roof and the bricks.

I really dislike gray with brick unless the brick has a lot of gray in it. I still stand by the sage for that house.

I love it! is this a mockup or the final result?

Mock-up from the companies online visualizer program.

I think that color choice is lovely. I would make sure the grey has a neutral undertone. anything too blue toned might not look good with the red bricks.

This is what I found for comparison.

you will need to be the best judge. seeing it in pictures is never the same as seeing it in real life. hold the samples up against the red bricks, not this other stone. your house is mostly red brick.

Be careful outlining every shape and corner in white; it makes the house look boxy. I agree that the portico is the wrong style for your home.

After months of backorder, the siding finally arrived. I definitely like the color and the trim around the windows was a great idea.

A new garage door is in my garage getting painted.

nice bill. I really like that siding color.

you prob don't want to hear this, but if you painted that brick white to match the trim and the stone, it would look really cool. it's the brown roof, red brick, blue gray siding, white stone, white posts/windows, the modern door. It's a bit much. its like every element is saying, "look at me".

(if you didn't have the portico, the white stone or the modern door, the red brick would be fine)

couldn't find an exact house like yours w/darker siding, but I found this one just to show you what the colors could look like

This one they did a darker brick to match the siding color. you could do either

The new garage door is in so the exterior is complete for now. As others have mentioned, I wouldn’t mind doing something with the brick color but since the current brick is the only thing tying in the roof color, and the roof being relatively new, I’m not ready to jump down that rabbit hole.
