Ideas for a fun way to send Gift Cards as a Housewarming Gift

My creative juices are all but dried up right now but looking for some ideas on how to package a gift of multiple gift cards as a housewarming.

Years ago, one of my sisters gave me a "tree" (really a jewelry hanger) filled with gift cards and ribbons. It was a delightful and much appreciated gift-- including cards to home depot, decor stores, gardening stores, even some restaurants.

I need two housewarming gifts-- one for my right-hand person at work who is coming to the end of a new build and one for my nephew and his wife who just moved/bought a house in NH. Both will need to be mailed so the "tree" idea won't work so well.

In the past I have assembled calendars with gift cards and messages-- one for my BFF and sister and one for a niece going off to college. I was really pleased with how they turned out-- but these days, who uses a calendar?? It's all online-- and with these two young folks, it's definitely the case.

Something easily sent via mail is definitely the challenge-- of course i could fall back and send only one or two more sizeable gift cards-- but part of the fun of the gift I received was the variety. I am hoping someone here has a fun idea to share.

The multiple cards was a fun idea, but that was pre-COVID. Right now, I'd find it more annoying to get, say, 4 cards for $25 for 4 stores, and have to run around more. I'd prefer to have a single larger value card to a store I really would use, like HD or Lowe's. It's all about the shopping these days.

Good point re: limitations of shopping in Covid-- but I am not planning to nickel and dime the gift cards-- and these are folks who already shop online. I would expect the largest cards to be for places like Home Depot, Crate & Barrel, Amazon, Wayfair (my coworker is getting a LOT from wayfair) etc. Let's assume 5 $100 cards and a few smaller ones. (Others may contribute also-- but i am planning to gift $500 each)

Still.. I recognize a single gift card may be more practical. I welcome ideas for a fun way to package just ONE gift card.

Not sure which i would choose for my nephew and his wife-- or if that matters. Coworker's would most likely be a Wayfair gift card.

I have photos of the homes-- maybe I just have custom visa cards made with a photo of their homes?

Because I am who I am. I would send gift cards with pretty masks, sanitizer, soaps....I, too, would choose one Large card. Not numerous Smaller ones.

You could spend hours trying to come up with a unique or clever way to give a gift card. I know I have. One year my DD sent me a pop-up birthday card with an enclosed gift card. The card was so pretty that I saved the pop-up and it now sits on a shelf in the kitchen. Search for Pop-Up cards on Etsy and you'll probably be able to find that's appropriate.

This one has a little video.

    Wisteria

And this is the one DD gave me. There was a little bird hanging from the branch but it's all dried up now.

When my kids were in college I always sent them a "Welcome to Dorm Life" gift. I bought an old fashioned Jacob's Ladder and managed to slide individual gift cards behind the ribbon.

    That was a big hit.

I HAVE and would continue to spend hours thinking about a way to give gift cards-- and part of the point of giving gift cards is to not spend a ton of time on finding a gift (though really, the primary reason is new homeowners will want to select their own items.. and some things they won't know that they need them until they know).

I love the idea of a *special* card-- popup or otherwise. I also love the Jacobs Ladder idea too. I am going to simplify my plan.. and thank you Maire-Cate for giving me so many examples.

I was making this way harder than it needed to be!

I was agreeing with a large single card at first, but then thought if you want to give a variety, you can probably guess what stores they will be going to anyway - like a hardware store (I'd choose a smaller local one instead of HD or Lowes), maybe Target, maybe someplace that delivers pizza or other food or offers curbside for those nights they are too tired to cook, etc. I don't think that's taking them to places they wouldn't already be going to sometime.

I’ve done it a few ways ways, not sure which if any apply. Once, in a wallet. Another time in a water proof fanny pack (for a beach vaca). Once in a small photo album And once in a recipe box.

Yah, I have given wallets that i filled with gift cards too-- not sure what i would use for a housewarming gift.

I did find some inexpensive new home journals/maintenance record books.. most of the info I'd expect them to keep online/on the cloud.. but really, I am only looking for a vehicle for gift cars so it could work for the purpose. Same with a photo album-- they're all fully online/cloud.

Will keep looking for popup cards and for books/photo albums.

(along with baby gifts-- we'll soon have a virtual baby shower for nephew and his wife!)

    Thanks all!

Not appropriate for my needs.. but if others are taking ideas, Yeti cups are good ways to give gift cards too.

And for my nephew who just went off to freshman year, i was caught unprepared and so i filled a regular gift bag with some of his favorite snack foods and tied a wide variety of nearby (takeout) restaurant gift cards to the handle with ribbons.

ok, I am leaning towards something like this.. it is more costly than I had intended but it IS a keepsake of sorts. Let me know your thoughts.. and if you know of someplace in the states that does something similar. (This is from etsy-- and ships from the UK which increases the price).

I like it for the personalization and the ribbon adds a nice tough. There are other designs but i like this very simple design. (new home projects could be.. "our home" or anything else i come up with)

Gift cards can be spent online, no need to go to the store. Funky, every birthday and Christmas I give my two grandkids one of those pop up cards which they love. In last year's bday cards (both a week apart) a crisp new $50 bill popped up with the decoration. They were delighted.

Today is a birthday for one with another popup card but I didn't give money this year due to Covid.

Whatever you decide will be much appreciated. Want my address? :)

A new or even new-to-them house requires repeated trips to a hardware/home improvement store with a $100 minimum purchase each time. And those are the kind of purchases that you can't do online. Your gift cards will be very much appreciated.

I also thought of a plant pot with a packet of seeds along with the gift cards. Or a garden trowel and garden gloves wrapped up with the gift cards inside the gloves.

I like the book, too. also an interesting book that we’ve given as a gift: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0767919386/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1599513085&sr=1-4

I really wanted to do something yard/garden related but both are HOAs and very limited to what they can do. My coworker is especially interested in all things plants and garden but they're limited to a small backyard plot. Still, they WILL need something, won't they?

I'll check out the book-- I have a few friends who really like Bill Bryson and nephew is a reader.

    Thank you all!

I usually make origami gift card holders for Christmas. These are from a few years ago:

And there are lots of free printable gift card holders:

Google Image Search Results - printable gift card holder

And even vintage seed packet printables:

    https://knickoftime.net/2016/05/antique-seed-packet-printables.html

Etsy.com has a number of vendors selling fun gift card holders too.

The origami card holders and the birdfeeders are both adorable!

I am a little stalled at the moment-- work tasks and a little home care of my own. I have some time so I will revisit this weekend. Thank you!
